“Teddy” the 13 week old Bernese Mountain Dog was in today for her 2nd C5 vaccination 💉
She got all the cuddles from our nurses and was so brave for her appointment!

🐾✨ INTRODUCING DR YIFAN LIU ✨🐾

Recently graduated from University, we are proud to welcome Dr Yifan into our ANVG family!

In her spare time Dr Yifan enjoys playing the violin 🎻, spending time practicing at her Archery Club 🏹, and playing with her ragdoll kitten, Coconut 🥥.

Dr Yifan has always wanted to be a veterinarian 👩‍⚕️ ever since she was young and throughly enjoys all aspects of veterinary science.

At this stage Dr Yifan will only be seeing patients for routine vaccinations and concerns.

We’re so excited to see her grow into the super vet we know she’ll be! 🐾🐾

‼️‼️CAT VACCINE SHORTAGE 🐱🐱‼️‼️

There is currently a country wide shortage of cat vaccines and this will carry through until the first part of 2024.

🚨We are prioritising immune compromised patients until we run out of stock which will be very soon across all of our clinics.

If your pet is due for a vaccine and you are unable to vaccinate we recommend keeping them inside to minimise any risk to keep them safe. ✅️

You are welcome to call us and we can place you on a call list for when vaccine stock is back to normal ❤️

🐍 SNAKE SEASON 🐍

🌞With our bouts of beautiful weather beginning, it is time to be start being more snake aware!

Eastern Brown Snakes are the most common in our area and are becoming more and more commonly found in suburbia. Weasling their way into the most odd places around our yards and homes.

🐶🐱Unfortunately when our cats and dogs see something moving about they become curious and sometimes end up with a bite that can very quickly turn fatal if we don't act quickly!!! ❌️❌️❌️

‼️If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake you MUST seek veterinary attention IMMEDIATELY.‼️

Sometimes they may not show any signs right away but as the venom starts doing its work you may see:

✳️Collapse or weakness
✳️Partial or full paralysis (unable to walk properly)
✳️Unsteadiness or uncoordination
✳️Muscle tremors
✳️Vomiting/drooling
✳️Changes in breathing
❇️Amongst various other signs and symptoms and they can vary from patient to patient.

To treat a snake bite a patient needs to be hospitalised and we administer an anti-venom treatment. It is most effective when given as close to a bite incident as possible. Urgency is key! 🚨

GRASS SEEDS ARE BACK 🌾

☀️During spring and summer is when we see the dreaded grass seeds appearing and causing havoc!

🐶Grass seeds with their sharp tips can lodge themselves practically anywhere in your pet but we most commonly see them in paws, ears, noses and eyes!

🚨Common symptoms to look out for include locking excessively at a foot, sneezing, shaking head or squinting of an eye. Of course these things can also be something else so to be sure our vet's will do a full examination to be certain!

✅️Often Grass seeds are picked up either in back yards or on walks and get trapped in our pets coats and make their journey from there! To avoid them we recommend keeping your yard free of dry grasses and avoid walking in dry grasses when out on walks.✅️

☀️Spring time ☀️

It is currently baby bird season 🐥

As baby birds are learning to fly they often find themselves outside of the nest and looking like they need help on the ground.

🐤Their parents are around, keeping a watchful eye on them, bringing them food as they learn to flap those wings and become strong and independent.

❤️We often want to help them when actually the best things to do is watch from afar and only intervene if they are injured or in immediate danger (being attacked or at risk of cats or dogs). If they are at risk we recommend moving them somewhere very closeby that is safe or try putting them back up in a tree first if unharmed.

If you have watched for sometime and feel like they have been abandoned or injured you can either call Fauna Rescue SA or bring them into your Vet Clinic 😊
