Every once in a while a dog enters your life and awakens you to a new understanding. They leave pawprints on your heart and you are never ever the same.
Happy 15th birthday our special girl π
Pet sitting, dog walking, sniffaris, enrichment visits...and lots of cuddles and kisses :) I was born and grew up in Slovenia, a small country below the Alps.
(17)
My name is Neva and I am the founder and owner of Magic Touch β Pet Pampering. I have owned dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and a few birds. I worked as a volunteer at 2 local rescue groups and have cared for homeless cats and dogs, helped a large number of abandoned and abused animals and 15 years ago became a foster carer for cats. Ozzy was one of those βspecialβ cats that stole my heart from the mom
ent we met so we decided he is going with us to Australia. Ozzy has passed away in 2017 and I am now a proud Mum of 3 cats (Olly, Tori & Demi) and Shelby the Kelpie. I have finished Cert. III & IV in Companion Animal Services, Pet Nutrition course, Assessing and handling a dangerous dog course, Chicken welfare & behaviour course... and after a few years working as a hydrobather and a pet sitter Iβve decided to start my own pet sitting and hydrobath business. After ongoing problems with my shoulder I have decided to hang up my grooming apron in May 2021 but I'm still available for pet sitting, dog walking and enrichment visits. My main motivation is the satisfaction that you get when you know that the pets are happy and well taken care of. Also, the love that you receive back from the pets as a thank you for looking after their well being. I believe I have a natural instinct and connection with animals. The companionship and unconditional love you receive from animals is one of the most rewarding experiences. To me, working with animals is the highlight of my life.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season ππππΎπ
Good morning from the other side of the world :)
Our fur babies arrived safely on Thursday and they are slowly getting used to the new smells and their new home.

I completely forgot to say thank you for all your warm wishes and kind words before we departed π©· It was a hectic few days before we left.
I have some big news to share!
We have made the decision to move back to Slovenia. We hadnβt expected it to happen this year but our Shelby is fit to fly at 14Β½ and we need to leave asap.
This hasn't been an easy decision to come to but we have to follow our hearts. Iβm sad to leave behind all my furry, feathered and scaly friends and my clients that have been so special to me.
But I am excited for the opportunities that wait for me and spend more time with my Mum.
Thank you once again for supporting my little business venture. I am forever grateful! π©·

So many lost pets without up-to-date microchip details. Why donβt you check your pet's details right now? Itβs free.
The Pet Address search engine allows you to search for the microchip number of a pet in various animal databases.
Simply type the microchip number in the search field; then click to search. If your number is found in one of the databases you will be directed to the database for further information.
If your beloved pet is microchipped it is imperative your contact details are kept current with the microchip database.
If your pet is lost or injured the chances of it being found and scanned for a microchip are extremely high. However, if your details are not up to date there will be no way for you to know someone has your pet.
If you donβt know your pets microchip number contact your veterinarian, council or animal welfare shelter who can scan your pet and supply you with the microchip number.
Simply type the microchip number in the search field; then click to search. If your number is found in one of the databases you will be directed to the database for further information.
All good things must come to an end, I'm back from Slovenia. Just taking a few days off to recover from jet lag and I'll be back at work on Monday! ππ

Ollie needed a few walks while his Dad was recovering from hip replacement surgery.
Little Benji was only 6 months old when his parents went on holiday. He was staying with his grandparents but they couldn't walk him very far. They called Aunty Neva to walk him every day for almost a month. We had so much fun exploring the parks and reserves nearby. The once shy little dog has conquered his fears around new people and situations. ππ©΅
Did you say walkies?

My job is so awesome but then there are the times like Saturday when the tears flow.
There is one portion I don't think I will ever like or get used to - when a pet gets really sick and passes in my care.
Roxy was out doing her favourite morning walk last Saturday when she collapsed. She was so weak and couldn't lift her head. I called my hubby and we rushed her to the Pet Emergency at North Lakes. They tried to resuscitate her but couldn't bring her back.
They brought Roxy to a farewell room decorated with candles and flowers. Her family couldn't be there so we said final goodbyes to her and telling her how much she was loved.
Run free Roxy π you will never be forgotten ππ
Happy 14th birthday to my soul dog, Shelby.

Overnight stays + extra lunch visits for Harry & Samson π©΅πππ©΅
I had the pleasure of taking care of these two beautiful & cheeky senior boys in September. I love to care for older pets, keeping them comfortable and happy. There is nothing like the sweet gentle soul of an old dog / cat.
Samson crossed the rainbow bridge in February. I'm sure he's looking down on us from his heavenly sandpit πβ€οΈ
2 visits per day for these two gorgeous boys, Lachie & Luda π©΅π
Buddy π©΅& Lexie π©· were my grooming clients for years. When their pawrents went away, they booked 2 visits per day so their precious pups won't be too lonely. :)
We had so much fun playing, learning new tricks, and cooling down with ice blocks πππ¦
After they lost their beloved Stella, my clients decided to join a foster program. Maple was in their care since September last year and has been adopted in January.
We went on a few adventure walks together.

What mental stimulation can you provide for your dog? Below are some ideas but try to mix it up too β doing the same activity day after day lowers its value. When presenting a new challenge or food toy to your dog, start easy. Let them see you scatter the food, have the food in a ball easily drop out etc. Then, slowly increase difficulty.
Play lots of sniffing and treasure hunt games. These are calming and relaxing β remember that 10 minutes of sniffing games is worth 50 minutes of exercise.
I use my recycling box to make fun and free food puzzles for the dogs. A few treats in a pasta box, maybe some scrunched up paper with a treat in it inside a box, a few treats in an empty egg carton, the list is endless. You can make them very tricky β box within a box within a box! Even hide them around the garden or house for them to find.
Also snuffle mats, licki mats, towel hide, activity toys (puzzles and treat dispensing toys)...
Try different activities to find what suits your dog. Remember to always check safety and supervise at first.
Eddie is a 12 months old Groodle who joined me last year in September.
He loves going for a walk, he definitely turns heads with his fluffy appearance and when he decides he doesn't want to walk anymore, he flops on his back ππ
A severe heatwave warning has been issued for large parts of Queensland so I'm going to cancel all walks for tomorrow and Friday. It's not safe and I don't want any dog to suffer from heatstroke.
I'm happy to do the enrichment visit instead. π₯΅π‘π₯

Just like dogs, cats need playtime and enrichment to keep them happy and satisfied. Cats love opportunities to use their natural instincts to jump, stalk, run and pounce. Without opportunities to express their predatory nature, indoor cats can get bored and frustrated. This can lead to anxiety, depression, and compulsive or unwanted behaviors. Cats also need mental stimulation to help prevent boredom and cognitive decline as they get older. Daisy & Storm β€π
Shake that booty! β€ Milo & Hershey are my new clients. I'll visit them twice per week for a decompression walk or enrichment walk and varying our walking route. A dog's prominent sense is its sense of smell. It's their superpower. π A decompression walk is a walk where the dog is allowed freedom (off-leash or on a long recall leash). Let their nose be their guide. The benefits of decompression walks are said to be physical, mental, and behavioral. π Enrichment walk has the same goal. To allow your dog to let his nose be its guide and explore. You can sprinkle treats for the dog to discover or use the environment, such as fallen trees, rocks, uneven grounds...to create a makeshift obstacle course. It's a great opportunity to practice the balance. Both of these options offer your dog more stimulation both mentally and physically, which can reduce stress and unwanted behavior. Is your dog bored, destructive and doesn't get enough exercise? If yes, then I'm here to help. Offering 30 & 60 min walks, one-on-one or maximum 2 dogs from the same household.
Scatter feeding dogs is simple and easy! This enrichment activity involves scattering dry food or treats for your dog to seek out. Scatter feeding helps to give dogs an outlet for their natural scavenger instincts. Since it involves both sniffing and eating, it can be extremely enjoyable and rewarding and also calming - this comes from the dopamine release dogs get from engaging in their most fundamental activities: sniffing and eating. So if you have a high energy dog mental stimulation and interactive feeding could be hugely beneficial. Hershey and Milo are enjoying this activity πβ€π
Evita became my client in 2018. My regular visits and walks helped her anxiety and she felt happier and calmer. At the end of that year she moved on the other side of town but came back again last year. Evita is now 12 years old and she got diagnosed with GOLPP (geriatric onset laryngeal paralysis polyneuropathy). Basically, her larynx is paralysed and she had to have a surgery to tie back one half of it. Sadly, the nerve that's paralysed travels all the way to the hind legs and she is slowly losing strength and use of them. It will eventually lead to a decision to euthanise π In the meantime, she's still happy and goofy, though much less energetic. Her breathing and fitness are impacted and walks in this heat just aren't safe for her. Evita still loves my visits and lots of attention β€
