Introducing Woodland Cottage. 2 years after purchasing the cottage, it was assembled as promised. In four days. We are now getting it ready for occupation. That however will take longer than four days( resigned sigh ricochets through cyber space). Any would-be WWOOFER for the Australian summer will be in luck with a beautiful well insulated, thermally passive cottage. Set in a mature garden.

Tanglewood takeaway garden breakkie . Mashed trombocino topped with pomegranate seeds. Then the additions not from the garden are fresh ginger and tumeric root, a touch of coconut cream, a sprinkle of almonds and a shake of cinnamon. Tastes great, easy to transport and lasts me until a late lunch. A seasonal favourite.

Edible lavender harvest. Several weeks later than previous years but pungency perfect for herbal tea and a delicious deep purple shade to sooth the nervous system each time it steeps. In the meantime table is covered with same as it dries and lavender suffused the house.

A great time to harvest rose petals, calendula and culinary lavender( I grow Hidcote but there are a couple of other culinary varieties to chose from)to dry and use for herbal teas throughout the year 🌹

A day of carnage in the Tanglewood poultry enclosure / orchard. Vale to Pit- Pat and Waddle -Pat , Khaki Campbell ducks ,and Pamela the resplendent Peking duck. Probably a fox but no sign of entry. Possibly the chooks ( nature can be gruesomely cruel) but what a battle that would have been. The mystery remains. And we morn our feathered friends. Security has been tightened.We hope for a peaceful morrow. Country living.

Seasonal garden Gado Gado inspired meal : young broad beans and leafy greens with chive flowers for joy, fenugreek sprouts for nutritional boost and a touch of miso paste added to the peanut sauce for umami zing, hard boiled egg and stir fried tempe. And a special mention for the brave store bought carrots for colour and crunch.

We are eating fresh and tender new grape vine leaves again this spring. A great addition to steamed or stir fried veggies. Also a tasty and easy GF substitute for regular pastry. They freeze well too Thank you mother nature.

Don't forget the dandelion greens in spring. Great addition to a plate of steamed leafy greens topped with a drizzle of olive oil. Yummy , packed with nutrients, and highly beneficial as are all bitter greens. Dig it .🌿
