This was posted to another page this morning….
If any of our members live in or around these areas,
(Tullamarine Drive/Camberwell Circuit Robina),
Can you please keep a look 👀 out for these kids….??!!🙈
It could possibly just be a matter of educating them on how to safely fish near wildlife????? But……..,
If they are in fact targeting the swans, then we need to alert the appropriate authorities, as deliberately setting out to harm wildlife (or worse), is an offence & should not be tolerated….
Fishing line entanglement is becoming more of a problem with so many more people enjoying our waterways & recreational water activities.
There is no problem with fishing at all, it’s great to see people out & about enjoying the waterways, but please if you are fishing, take all discarded line & tackle with you & bin it!!!!
Our poor swans have enough hardships to deal with just trying to survive & live their lives without all of this extra stress & harassment.😢
If you do see an injured animal needing assistance, please call Wildcare (5527 2444) immediately, as the quicker we can get them help, the more chance they have to survive & be returned to the wild 🦢💕

Thankyou to the lovely member of the public who took the time to make this little note to put on their nesting site to inform all the local swan lovers as to what happened to the little family…it was such a cute idea 🥰
We look forward to mumma making a full recovery so that she is able to raise her little family 🤗🦢
Many thanks to Jenni Aussie Wildlife for her dedication & determination to make sure mumma & babies were given the chance to recover ….

On Friday a small group of our members were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go out to the Aussie Wildlife facility & volunteer for the morning….
It was a wonderful opportunity to be hands on & gain an insight into exactly what is involved in caring for our beautiful swans.🦢🥰
Everyone had a very rewarding experience & we would like to take this opportunity to thank Jenni from Aussie Wildlife for her kindness in allowing us all to come out & see the amazing facility in action🤗💕🦢

This story was posted from another group, & even though it’s not directly related to swans, in the future it could help them too, so the message was well worth sharing….EVERY life is precious …
If you see something PLEASE say something!!!!🙏
The quicker an incident is reported, the sooner we can get the animal the help it deserves…
The story….
As I was driving home this evening I passed this juvenile turkey looking disheveled on the side of the road, standing in a bed of her own feathers.
I turned around, scooped her up, called a rehabilitator that specializes in birds and made the drive to get her to safety.
The whole way there though I couldn't help but question "How much pain is she in? " "How long has she been baking in the sun in 93° weather?" "How many people saw her today and chose to look the other way?"
By looking at her though, I can already somewhat answer these questions.
Turkeys are most active in the early morning hours or late evening, so it's likely she has been sitting in this same spot for at least 12 hours.
This is a very busy road, so I imagine hundreds of people saw her today.
She's panting heavily, so it's also likely she has heat stroke in addition to her injuries from being immobilized in this weather.
And she was giving it all she had left to continue standing and fighting the pain, in an attempt to not look vulnerable to predators.
But the coagulated blood on her face, drooping wing, and the fact that she could barely keep her eyes open, tells me she feels absolutely miserable.
I truly can't imagine how afraid and in pain she is..
Did you know wild turkeys form lifelong flocks with their siblings and friends?
And that they actually recognize each other by their voices and special calls?
Well, if this little one is fortunate enough to survive her injuries, she will more than likely never be reunited with her family again.
And all of these things are what run through my mind when I come across an animal that's so obviously in need of help, yet the species with the most resources have become too desensitized to intervene.
PLEASE don't let yourself become so callous that you allow another living being to suffer because you're in too much of a hurry.
Take 30 minutes out of your day, reroute your GPS, make a few phone calls and SAVE A LIFE.

Wishing everyone in our group a wonderful day!!!!You are all Swanderful 🤗💕🦢

As a follow-up to the sad deceased swan story on Friday night behind Robina Pavillion…we went & took photos & water samples from the area on Saturday morning, doesn’t look good 🙈😞
We found another swan swimming in there, but he got out of the pond & went down the hill into the waterway that forms part of the Robina Common area where the dog park is…hopefully he doesn’t get sick too😢
Sadly another swan that was taken to hospital last week with serious issues, wasn’t responding to treatment & was rapidly losing weight..she was euthanised overnight as was too weak & lethargic to fight anymore 😢😢
Please….if anyone in that area sees any swan or other waterbird showing any signs of distress or suffering, please contact us or Wildcare immediately so that we can act quickly to give them the best chance possible 🙏🙏🙏🦢💕

🦢‼️This is our S.O.S ‼️🦢

As many of you are aware we are doing MANY swan rescues. We LOVE our swans and we will continue to rescue regardless, but we are running out of space at our main rescue centre Aussie Wildlife

If you could spare your next coffee and donate even $5 to buy a few of these $1000 cages we would be forever grateful.

Please donate to Aussie Wildlife
http://bit.ly/3lvznXw and put ref: SOS when donating. Please also comment done on this post.

It is crucial that we have these cages to assist in housing the sick and injured swans to help rehabilitate them in individual dry housing.

Update….RIP beautiful mumma (ANT-DBX)😢🦢💕
We were informed today that on 11/07/23 as DBX was sitting on her clutch of eggs in Altissimo Close, a dog approached along the rocks from the park on Silvabank Lake & attacked her.
In the attack, she sustained several breaks to her wing & was so traumatised that she fled & swam approx 500m downstream where she stayed for the next 5 days, unable to make it back to her nest, she was found in a stormwater pipe, but couldn’t be saved….😢
This left her partner Vector to finishing sitting on the eggs until they hatched on 29th & 30th July 2023. They had 5 beautiful little cygnets, which due to the the dog attack, Vector must now try & raise on his own…
It will be a big challenge for him, as the dads are normally the protectors , not the nurturers…so we all have our fingers crossed this little family makes it through & does their mumma proud..💕
I was lucky enough to have known this beautiful girl for the past 7 years as she had several nests at my house, & would always bring her new little families to visit..she made many families along the lake very happy with her visits bringing her new little babies along to show everyone….
she was one of the oldest swans on our part of the lake, & will be dearly missed. Love u mumma 💕😢🦢

We know how much we adore our furry feline friends 😻, but it's essential to be mindful of their impact on wildlife too.

Cats are natural hunters. Their instincts drive them to chase and catch prey, which can include birds, small mammals, reptiles, and insects. 🐦 🐀 🦎

Outdoor cats pose a higher risk to wildlife compared to indoor cats. When given the freedom to roam, they have more opportunities to encounter and hunt wildlife.

Check out our infographic we've put together, on when and how to report harmful interactions.

I’ve been asked to repost this from a while back. I have lived on Lake Hugh Muntz for 24 years. During that time I have come to know the individual swans by name and personality, forming a particularly close bond with Serena (the star of my hit novel “Swan Song”) for over 15 of those years. Swans are very rarely aggressive for no reason. I will not say never because I have known swans of all personality types, just like humans, and I have known one particularly aggressive swan… Hannibal (the antagonist of my anthropomorphised novel). But usually they are very affectionate, empathetic, intelligent, inquisitive animals who only become aggressive when threatened... just like humans. I have witnessed their lives, loves, and deaths at the hands of humans (illegally allowing dogs off leash, which has killed more than one of our beautiful, iconic, protected and precious fellow inhabitants of the Gold Coast). If you see a swan in trouble (usually the result of selfish/careless disregarded fishing paraphernalia but more recently by deliberate attacks by senseless/heartless goons in boats) there are several people you can contact...
