Nearly 500 million animals killed in Australian bushfires

Around 480 million animals are feared to have died in the bushfires sweeping Australia, including nearly a third of the koalas in New South Wales's main habitat.

Amazing Lady who runs an absolutely sensational group and they do an incredible looking job after individual carers like us!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If you would like to donate to help with our rescue work and to the many vet bills we have it would be appreciated. Every little bit helps.

This photo was taken the other night,
But this is what Fab and I get ready every night before morning feeds the next day.

If anyone would like to donate ITEMS it would be lovely,

Like all Wildlife carers we are in Mad season, that means everything is out and about.

If you know someone who cares for orphaned or injured Wildlife it really doesnt take much to help,

95c for a box of tissues....we go thru 12 box's a week, other carers go thru double that, $2 for baby wipes,
Wheat bix and cereals are always needed too, bring a Bixy and Rodge will love ya forever!❤

You clean out your fruit basket......and might chuck it all into a trash bin, We need apples, strawberries, sweet potatoes, all fruit and Veg can be utilized somewhere.

You dead head your Rose bushes, we badly need the petals, possums love them, I personally only have 1 rose bush and cant keep up.

If you have mice and trap them but dont use any baits....we need them...Birds of prey, lizards.

Containers, bottles, puppy pads(blueys)
Washing baskets, blankets, sheets (materials I can make into pouches)
Mascara brushes, mesh, wire, BADLY NEED CLAM SHELL POOLS OR OLD PONDS, need to put more water and food bowls out with this upcoming heat, hollow logs, branches, all sorts and far too much to name x

Anything is welcomed and what we can't or don't use is passed on to other Wildlife Carers in need.

Again thankyou to all who continue to bring stuff to us, forever grateful xx❤❤

Five Freedoms Animal Rescue

Cute little weirdo 🖤🦇

This video is the feeding of a Gould's wattled bat. He was rescued from a factory in Tullamarine about 3 weeks ago, where he was found on the ground next to another bat who was dead. I took him home for emergency care. He was underweight and the nights were very cold, often dropping down near zero degrees.

He adapted to our hospitality very quickly and enjoyed a warm home and nightly feeds of mealworms. He would eat as many as 30 worms in a single session and has reached a whopping 19 grams in body weight. With the warmer weather finally arriving, I am about to take him back home so that he can rejoin his colony.

Please note that, as a precaution, Helen and I have been inoculated for the Australian Bat Lyssavirus. This disease is not prevalent in Victoria but Lyssavirus is a potentially dangerous disease and If you find an injured or sick bat, do not handle it and call a wildlife rescue organisation to get appropriate help.

Seriously......yet anyone, anywhere can purchase and use.

IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.

Yesterday rescuers were called out to a kangaroo that was a victim of cruelty.

Mel was the first to arrive on scene where she located a female kangaroo with a large arrow lodged through her upper body.

Next Karl arrived in hopes to tranquillise her but unfortunately due to her mobility, getting within range was impossible.

Desperately running out of daylight hours the rescue operation was suspended until today.

Today we were taking no chances, Manfred & Karl were both there as darters, the area was kept as quiet as possible but something wasn’t quite right. The kangaroo staring back at them was a male and the arrow was protruding from his rump.

The horror of what we were dealing with though not uncommon, left rescuers sickened, we were dealing with 2 kangaroos, both with arrows in them.

Today we were able to successfully dart the male kangaroo. Manfred got a perfect shot & everything went to plan.

He was rushed to Melbourne Zoo, underwent surgery and is now recovering at a local wildlife shelter.

The search for the female roo continues.

This was an enormous team effort, and we want to acknowledge those that took part to help get us the result to date.

Our 2 incredible darters Karl & Manfred.
Rescuer Mel, VicPol, Shelter Operator Helen, Wildlife Victoria & Melbourne Zoo for their willingness to get this boy treated immediately.

The arrow has been handed to VicPol who are currently investigating this aggravated cruelty towards 2 animals that did not deserve such abhorrent behaviour.

Rescuers will be in attendance again tomorrow.

*Please note, this is a current active police investigation, the exact location cannot yet be mentioned but rest assured, rescuers will be out searching again in the morning.

This is Danny Boy, he was saved by Julz after she found him run over and left for dead. His shell had been broken in many places however his X-Rays showed no sign of internal injuries, he was fixed up with resin and has been dry docked for 6 weeks, he had his first bath to test out his new shell and make sure he's waterproof. He needs a bath everyday for another week to check he is all good and hopefully he can be released into a nice pond🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢

A bit about us

My family and I love caring for any orphaned or injured wildlife, with many years experience, we have dedicated our time to raising joeys, it's a full time job, we’re on call 24/7 and we love it!. every rescue has its own story, (like jumping 5 hot fences to help a baby swan) and its own unique character and nurturing them is very comforting. Over the years, we have taken in lot's of everything, try not too wait long to get the animal/Macropod to an experienced carer. So if you hit something or see an orphaned/injured Joey, birds, anything, try and help it, (but don’t give anything cows milk) or Just call or message someone, we rely on the members of the public to call in and help us to help the animal.
