They reach their s*xual maturity when they have grown to about 75% of their body weight, meaning smaller breeds will reach s*xual maturity earlier. Rabbits can breed as young as four months of age and can have 10-11 litters in a single year, with up to 16 kittens per litter (24 was the record!). Within a few years, undes*xed rabbits and their offspring can produce thousands and thousands of baby rabbits.
Des*x your rabbit today! Call us to book in with one of our exotic vets.
There are a number of benefits to des*xing your pet rabbit. It is a big responsibility to care for a pregnant animal and her babies, and it’s the right thing to do to help prevent large numbers of unwanted rabbits who end up in animal shelters needing new homes.
There are also health benefits to des*xing your rabbit. If undes*xed, female rabbits can run the risk of developing cancer of the uterus, mammary tumours and can have phantom pregnancies. It would also remove the risk of testicular cancer in males.
If you’re housing more than one rabbit together, it vital to prevent pregnancies and aggressive behaviour between rabbits. Same s*x couples will fight, with the chance arguments will seriously escalate to cause each other grievous harm.
July is national des*xing month!
So what better time to get your pet des*xed, we have 20% off des*xing surgeries until the end of August.

🍫🍫🍪🍩 Yes, chocolate is toxic to dogs.
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are similar compounds and cause similar clinical signs such as an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, agitation, tremors, and seizures.
While rarely fatal, chocolate ingestion can result in significant illness. Dogs metabolize theobromine and caffeine differently than people, making them more sensitive to the chemicals’ effects.

Chickens have some pretty clever ways of beating the winter chill, but they may still need your help. Like all birds, chickens use their feathers for insulation by fluffing them up and trapping the air. But for the times when nature is hard to predict, good pet care involves providing appropriate refuge.
❄️Insulation❄️
In cold parts of Australia, you could insulate your chicken coop with tree branches, cardboard, or straw. Care should be taken if hay or straw is used for insulation, as these can become infested with mold and vermin and carry chicken parasites. Also, remember to keep the insulation tidy. Keeping the coop clean and dry is essential as most bacteria, fungi, and parasites thrive in warm, moist environments.
☀️Warmer climates☀️
If you live in one of the warmer Australian states then you probably won’t need to install insulation in your chicken coop at all. Open, ventilated coops are more important. Learn more tips on coop setup on our website, or alternatively, visit your local Greencross Vets for expert advice.
Dog enrichment 🐕🐩🐾
These toys require your dog to figure out how to get to the food inside and include:
Rubber hollow fill toys: These can be filled with food. Your dog must work to get the food out by licking, chewing, or rolling the toy.
Treat balls: These have a small opening through which your dog can get the food inside. Your dog must figure out how to roll the ball to release the pieces of food.
Interactive feeders: These have compartments or mazes your dog must navigate to get to the food.
Snuffle mats: These have various small pockets or grooves where food can be hidden for your dog to sniff out and find.
Puzzle toys are a fun and interactive way to feed your dog their meals. These toys challenge your dog's problem-solving abilities and encourage them to think and learn. To ensure safe playtime, it’s important to choose puzzle toys that match your dog’s size and skill level and always supervise to ensure they don’t accidentally swallow small parts.
DIY Dog Enrichment Ideas 🐾🐩🐕
DIY puzzle toys
You can create your own puzzle toys using items you have at home, such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, or paper bags. You can hide food inside a box filled with screwed-up paper, empty bottles and cardboard tubes and let your dog use nose work to get to them. Warning – they will make a mess, so have your recycling bin at the ready!
Rolled towel puzzle
Place food on a towel and roll the towel up. Let your dog work the towel open with their nose to find the food. To make this more challenging, place the treats in a dog-safe enrichment toy in the towel.
Muffin tin activity
Place food in the cups, then hide the muffin tin somewhere in the house or garden for your dog to find. Putting a small toy on top of the food makes it more challenging as your dog must figure out how to move the ball or toy to get to the goodies.
Homemade lick mat
Make a lick mat using a silicone baking mat or a rubber shower mat. Smear on wet dog-friendly food and let your dog lick it off.

Winter is here! We feel it's going to be a super cold one, and chances are if you are feeling cold your furry friend is too.
Here are some ways to keep your pet warm in the Winter:
💚Keep your pet inside
💚Provide a warm, soft, elevated bed
💚Warm coats are great for pets that are senior, small or have thin coats
💚Move your guinea pigs hutch inside the house or garage
💚Provide extra straw and hay so small pets can burrow and hide
💚Keep all bedding dry
💚Wrap a loose blanket over your pet, but don’t tuck them in. They still need to be able to move away from it if they overheat
💚Walk your furry friend during the day when it’s not as cold
