Street Cat Alliance Qld SCA is a team of volunteers dedicated to helping cats in need throughout Toowoomba & Southern Qld.

SCA Qld is a small team of volunteers dedicated to helping community cats in need within the Toowoomba Region and throughout Southern Queensland. We rescue cats who have found themselves homeless for whatever reason – cats in regional pounds where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to overpopulation, cats surrendered by their owners because of difficult circumstances, abandoned and homeless s

trays, and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We provide shelter, medical aid, vetting, and everyday care to these cats until their forever homes are found. TO DONATE:
As a not-for-profit charity organisation, SCA Qld does not receive government funding and all life-saving funds come from the generous donors who believe in our vision - to live in a community where no kitten is born wild on the street, and where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one. 🚨 Emergency Vet - Gaga Update! 🚨
We are so happy (and relieved) that Lady Gaga has responded really well to her treatment! Although our little fighter is staying in hospital for another night, Dr Katie was able to remove the air from the chest cavity, and yay, the leaking has stopped 🥳 There is still some bleeding from the pulmonary contusions, but Gaga was taken off oxygen by the morning and is staying overnight for monitoring and pain relief - just to be sure she is out of the woods! 😅

Thanks to everyone who dug deep and donated! We are so appreciative of your support - and Lady Gaga owes you her life 🥹 As of Thursday evening, a whopping $1200 has been raised (thank you!!), but we still have a way to go to reach the estimated target of approx $2000, plus the extra night in hospital (luckily no oxygen though!). Please, if you can spare a few dollars we would be so grateful. And remember that every little bit counts… and our beautiful Gaga is worth it💕

🚨 Emergency Vet plea! 🚨
Sweet Lady Gaga from our Hollywood 7 litter was a little too clever for her own good tonight 🥺 She worked out that even though the doggy flap is one way, she could pull it open just enough to slip through and see just how the other side lives!

Sadly, the resident doggos weren’t sure what to do upon Gaga’s grand entrance, and decided she must be a new play toy, much to the utter horror of Gaga’s foster parents. Foster mum stepped in to pry Gaga free from the dog’s jaws, resulting in getting herself pretty badly scratched up. But her instincts kicked in, and she just had to get Gaga out of the traumatic situation.

Gaga was rushed to REDvets Toowoomba emergency clinic for immediate care, which is crucial for the best chance at recovery in a traumatic situation, and left in Dr Katie’s capable hands for pain relief and diagnostics.

An ultrasound has shown that poor Gaga has suffered thoracic trauma and has pulmonary contusions (bruising of the lungs) causing some bleeding, and a pneumothorax requiring regular draining until it stops leaking. Gaga will require oxygen treatment during this time. So these next 12-24 hours will be touch and go 🥺

Gaga really needs your help to cover the emergency vet bill. The estimate for treatment is currently approx. $1600-$2000 for the first 12-24 hours, and approx $5-600 per 12 hours for oxygen treatment until the leaking stops. We haven’t even gotten around to sending tax receipts to our wonderful donors who supported gorgeous Teddy, and here we are asking again! But we can’t do this without your help.

How's your Caturday night?

We spent the afternoon and early evening trapping a mumma cat who had been spotted with three neonate kittens in some suburban stables.

After getting approval to set up the cat trap, our volunteer was nearly run over by a driver in a ute. This person yelled out the window that "it's just a f**king cat, let it die." 😡

Despite this sort of thing happening, SCA Qld's volunteers will keep doing what we do best - rescuing vulnerable cats in need.

We are pleased to announce that mumma cat has been successfully trapped and is now reunited with her three little bubs, all safely in care! 🥳

Katey Kat – Available for Adoption/Foster to Adopt! 💖
S*x: Female (speyed)
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Colour/Pattern: Brown Tabby
DOB: 01/01/2018 (estimate)
Location: Toowoomba
Adoption Fee: $200 Desexed, microchipped (transfer included in fee), flea/worm treated, vaccinated.

Hey friends, my name is Katey! I'm an affectionate and friendly kitty with a penchant for napping on your lap and having a chat with you. 😘

Before I came to SCA Qld, I was living rough in the region's outback. I was very skinny and had a terrible worm and flea burden. It's unclear how I came to be living the wild life, as I was microchipped and had at least one owner who sadly didn't claim me. Since being in care, I have steadily gained condition and shown them just how grateful I am for my second chance at life! 🥰

About me? Well, my favourite place to be is sitting on your lap, getting some pats and attention or just to curl up and nap. I'm a real little snuggly buddy with my chosen people, that's for sure! I also enjoy having a chat with you. I'll meow for lap time, dinner, play time, and of course just to say hello!

I also enjoy my play time, especially when it comes to batting away at my beloved string toys and climbing the cat tower. I do love making a mess with the cardboard scratchers too.

I have not been tested with other cats and dogs directly, but I'm sure that with proper introductions I'd get along great with your existing fur family if you have one. 💗 So we can have the best possible start to our new life together, be sure to follow the resources in the email from SCA Qld to help properly introduce me to my new fur sibling/s.

I'm a food-motivated girl and will let you know if you're overdue for dinner time! I tend to eat a little too quickly, so food puzzles work a treat. I also like to stay hydrated so you'll see me by the water bowl (and the fountain, if you have one)! I am great with using the litter tray too, so no worries there. I really am a wonderful cat with a lot of love to shower over my special new family.

Can we be best friends already?! Fill out an application now!

Snuggles,
Katey xo

Hey, Meow! What a classy neighbourhood. My name is O'Malley and I'm so glad to make your acquaintance.

I was found in some paddocks on the outskirts of town by a wonderful and caring vet professional (how about that for luck!). It was such a hot day, I must have been suffering from heat stroke... I could barely move. And although I was scared, I am so glad the lovely human stopped to see if I was ok. Without their help, I might not have been here today to tell the tail 😉

I was taken straight to the clinic to receive the life saving treatment that I desperately needed. They took such good care of me, and now I'm as good as new! Sadly my owners didn't come forward, so I became a regular visitor to the clinic while all my vet work was done, and I am now ready to find my forever family ❤️

I am a little shy at first, but once I come out of my shell I will let you know just how much I like head rubs and belly pats! Let me show you how much of a sweetheart I really am! I am untested with cats and dogs, but I'm sure with proper introductions I'd get along great with your existing fur family if you have one.

I'm the perfect young kitty and I can't wait to find my forever home!

Purrs and belly pats,
O'Malley xx

Foster to Adopt:
Maple is available under our Foster to Adopt program, which is all about making sure you have the perfect match! Under this program, we provide all food, flea/worm treatment, and litter while you foster Maple. That way, you can decide if you're the right fit before adoption!

Hello there, wonderful humans - I'm Maple! I'm a beautiful, cheeky, playful, and sweet tabby girl. 💗

Before coming into care, I was a stray who lived in the region's outback bush. I was afraid of people, unsocialised, and what most people would call "feral". SCA Qld's foster carers have worked with me for over a year to socialise and rehabilitate my former wildling self. I've made so much progress, learned how to be an indoor-only "house cat", and let my personality shine!

I love pats and scritches, especially under my chin and on my neck while I purr away contentedly. Oh, and I love to be brushed, as you will see from my happy dribbles! I'm the kind of cat who enjoys being near you, coexisting in your company (your little shadow around the house) - I'll sit next to you, not on you.

I'm playful yet gentle and will happily play for hours on end, enjoying the kittenhood I didn't get to have. I will entertain myself by chasing the ball, tossing the bird toy around, doing zoomies, using the cat scratcher, and playing peek-a-boo with the other cats. 😍

I'm happiest in the company of other cats and will coexist respectfully with them. If you've got friendly felines at home, follow the slow introduction process SCA shows you and we'll become best buds. I'm not fully tested with dogs or children, but if you have friendly dogs and/or respectful kids, I'm sure we'll get along with patience.

I tend to eat most of my biccies straight away but have come to trust that I can leave a little food in the dish for later. Ooh, I love food puzzles because I'm a very intelligent cat and enjoy my treats, and also my water fountain as I like to stay hydrated. And don't worry, I know how to use the litter tray too!

✨ My forever human? You are kind and patient, as you understand that I need extra time and space to settle into my new home. You understand cat behaviour and respect my boundaries, giving me affection when I seek it and my own space when I need it. You give me unconditional love and the predictability of a routine. This helps support my sense of safety and is essential in building a trusting bond together. In return, you will be rewarded with a cheeky, smart, and well-adjusted kitty who will bring you endless joy and entertainment.

Will you be my chance at happily ever after? Fill out an application now!

🧸Teddy update!🧸

Thank you all so much for reaching so deep for gorgeous Ted(notTiger)💕 We have actually surpassed our goal (and a huge thanks again to Greencross Vets Chandlers for making that goal attainable!).

Sweet man Ted has quickly stolen the hearts of everyone at the clinic (he is seriously THE bestest boy), and has found himself a loving forever home with one of the wonderful staff. The happiest outcome ever!

Thanks again everyone, we couldn't have done it without your support!
❤️🐾

Everybody, meet Ted 🧸. It's cases like Ted's that make our hearts heavy (and our blood boil).

Ted was quite literally neglected... missing for days before his owners went on holidays, for them to return a week after his disappearance and find him waiting for them... with his hind leg just dangling and in immense pain. It was another two days before his owners agreed (after a call from the vet clinic to the RSPCA) to surrender Ted into care. This poor boy had not even been brought in for a basic consult and pain relief 🥺

Now, we have absolutely no room. We are beyond full. Our carers are overcrowded and exhaused. But the amazing team at Greencross Vets Chandlers didn't hesitate with their offer to look after Ted, so it was a very quick YES from us! How can anyone leave an animal go untreated with such a horrible, agonising injury for so long??

Our wonderful Dr Emma jumped straight into action - Teddy's leg was so badly broken (as seen in the xray 😳) that the only feasible option was amputation. We know how amazingly well cats adapt to a hind leg amputation, the recovery time is so much faster and easier than orthopaedic surgery, and there are no worries about ongoing or future issues, pain, or arthritis in the limb. Win win! And within two days post-surgery, Ted was scooting around the clinic like a brand new kitty 🎉

While our beautiful vets have gone above and beyond (I mean, who could help it? He really is an amazing boy!) and have provided all of Ted's medical and surgical care for less than a third of the regular cost, we are asking for your help to get Teddy's vet bill paid off 🙏🙏 We are hoping to raise $1000 to go towards his fees to date.

Hey friends, my name is Penny! My babies and I are SCA's Big Bang Theory litter. I'm a chatty and smoochy young lady ready to find my forever home!

Before coming into care I found myself in a regional pound. 😭 I was heavily pregnant, not microchipped, and no one came looking for me. While I was waiting, my beautiful babies were born. SCA was on our side, they took us into care and changed our lives forever. Only days later I was presented with four tiny orphan kittens clinging to life. At first I was overwhelmed, but in no time I knew in my heart that they were mine. Now that my extended ‘Big Bang’ brood are all grown, I am searching for a family to call my own 🥰

I am a chatty, affectionate girl with a strong personality, who lives for pats and smooches. I do confesses to being an attention hog, so I am longing for a forever family that have time just for me so I can lap up all the limelight. I love to find a sunny spot to lay in, particularly on a window ledge or in the catio, and catching all the scents floating in on the breeze. I dream of a warm spot on a bed or couch, or curled up by a heater this winter and I promise I will reward my forever family with my love, good company, and lots of chats😊

I've been busy protecting my babies while in our foster home, so things may have been a little tense with my fur brothers and sisters. But I'm sure that once I'm in a home of my own, and with proper introductions I'd get along great with your existing fur family if you have one. 💗 So we can have the best possible start to our new life together, be sure to follow the resources in the email from SCA to help properly introduce me to my new fur sibling/s.

I am great with my food and water, and with the litter tray too, so no worries there! I really am a wonderful little cat who will fit in with pretty much any family when I'm given time to settle in.

What a huge week that we, and our wonderful team at Greencross Vets Chandlers have had 😅 You may remember Cici, this sweet girl was trapped early this year along with her kitten at local Toowoomba manufacturer, FibreCycle (who coincidentally make Breeders Choice litter!).

Cici has come such a long way from the young wildling that we first rescued, and was so close to being ready for adoption. But over the past few months, we noticed that she was not putting much weight on her hind leg. After a few visits, and thanks to Dr Emma's persistence, we finally had a specialist diagnosis - chronic tarsocrural subluxation (or... a chronically unstable hock, likely from busted ligaments along the side of the hock "ankle" joint). Unfortunately the only treatment is surgical - an arthrodesis (specialist surgery at $8k) or amputation.

As grateful as we were to have received a massive rescue discount on the quote for arthrodesis, we just could not justify the $6k cost. We have had tripod kitties previously, who have adapted exceptionally well, and we knew that Cici would be in the best hands for her amputation with Dr Emma!

Which brings us to Wednesday... Cici has come through her surgery like the little champion that she is! And was obviously more upset with her foster mother for starving her, than she was about the surgery itself 🤣 Cici is now back home and will remain crated for 10-14 days (wish us luck!!) while she heals from this major surgery. And once she is given the all clear, we would LOVE to find her perfect forever home.

You may also remember sweet Sheldon, who landed himself in the emergency clinic at the beginning of August. Sheldon also visited Dr Emma earlier this week after his symptoms began to return. He kept the vet staff company for the day, and with sedation Dr Emma was able to determine that Sheldon has a perforated ear drum and 'the worst yeast infection in a cat' that she's ever seen! Sheldon has had his ear canal cleaned out and will be on medication for 8 weeks to ensure that we clear the nasty infection and that his eardrum has time to heal. Once Sheldon is given the all clear in a couple of months, he too will be on the hunt for his perfect forever home.

Our vet clinics really do look after us, and Cici's surgery was quoted at $800-$1000, which is around half of the regular price! 💖 But with kitten season already upon us, we really need your help to cover these unexpected costs. Please consider making a tax deductible donation towards Cici and/or Sheldon's vet fees - any amount, no matter how small, will help us to keep doing what we do.

Donations can be made via direct debit:
Heritage Bank - Street Cat Alliance Qld
BSB 638-070 | Acct 15709779
or to Greencross Vets Chandlers at 224 Alderley Street, Centenary Heights.
(please message us directly if you'd like a tax receipt)

We also accept donations via PayPal or the Donate button on this post.

Cici and Sheldon really appreciate all of the well wishes and support - Thank you!
