Please take a few minutes to stand up for for these sweet animals, silently suffering the slowest, most despicable of deaths at the hands of our very own Australian Government.

These are the same animals who returned from Israel months ago. Many of you, our animal loving clients, have told us how upset you are by this animal welfare atrocity. But how many of us have voiced this to our MPs?

It is simply a numbers game for the Government. If they get enough people contacting them, they will set a date to stop this trade.

It’s easy to do it, just type in our postcode here and it comes up with contact details for our MPs.https://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Parliamentarian_Search_Results?q=2429&par=-1&gen=0&ps=12

And https://secure.peta.org.au/page/26752/action/1
Please post in the comments once you have sent your message. Thank you so much for caring!

And there they go. Those poor animals, that have already suffered so, so much, have just left Fremantle on the Bahijah, headed to Israel - all in the name of a buck 💔

They will be at sea until 5 April - passing around the treacherous Cape of Good Hope - before facing inhumane slaughter.

This is not ok!!!! Legislate the date NOW Anthony Albanese & Murray Watt - Senator for Queensland. Australians say NO to this blatant animal cruelty!!! 😭😭😭

01/02/2024

Imagine if we did this to our animals🥵
Let’s see if the government today shows some mercy to these 16,000 animals packed on the metal ship in the WA heatwave.

Cheers to Gibson and all our other beautiful dogs and cats who are celebrating with us tonight 🎊 🎉 🎈

Some of the dogs are swimming, others are curled up on the sofa. Gibson even brought his own namesake wine for the NYE celebration🍷 what a dog’s life it is!

Some of the cats are busy doing their puzzles, others are out exploring and some are just curling up nice and snug in their igloos.

Whatever you and your pets are doing tonight, we wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Our thoughts tonight are also with those who are away from their loved ones, those who are grieving loved ones and people and animals who are alone, unwell, or in difficult situations.

Thank you to those of you who are also working; those in the emergency, health and hospitality services and everyone else doing the best you can.

Thanks to our wonderful team of Mary, Tess, Oli and Alex and of course Mike for your devotion and commitment to our animals during this festive time.

And thanks to all our wonderful clients. If your pets are home with you, we’d love to see some snaps in the comments of how you and your pets are celebrating the New Year. Enjoy!

It takes a special kind of German Shepherd Dog to enjoy boarding away from their humans. And it takes an even more special kind of GSD who tolerates us humans dressing them up for our Christmas entertainment!

Thank you to our big, bold and beautiful shepherds Diesel, Tyson, Hugo and graduates Heidi, Max and Billie.
We feel very privileged that you accept us as your friends🥰

Presenting…. the Gate That Mike built…

For many years, most of you will have been quietly frustrated with our old latch and gate at the kennel reception area.

So back in October, Mike embarked on the building of a beautiful new wooden gate.

His craftmanship was so meticulous and the gate so solid, The Great Gate required several days to bore brand new posts to hold up its massive weight.

The Great Gate is so amazing that it also required specially hand-made hinges.
Said hinges however got held up in Australia Post’s Christmas mail, so we have had no gate for weeks (hence the house entrance check-ins for kennel dogs).

Then there was the small matter of the wood of the Great Gate being upside down and back to front, but we won’t elaborate on that. It was, after all, Mike’s very first attempt at such an elaborate building project.

Absolutely awesome job Mike. The gate will be around for many years to come, a place where clients and friends can gather for a friendly chat as happened today when Kerrie and Kristian and their awesome dog Franki came by.

Mike, your timing is perfect to have your Great Project complete just in time for Christmas.

Special thanks to our wonderful new kennel attendant Alex and our old yet still wonderful kennel attendant Tess for their patient help with this project. (The rest of us have stayed well away from it.)

Please all be sure to admire The Great Gate when you come in!

Many thanks to Badgers Land Management for the posts and Blackwood Country Gates for the hinges for making it all possible!

For today’s we are sparing a thought for the silent plight of our gentle animals who we send away on ships - and now there is not even an on-board vet to advocate and care for them.

If you have any spare Christmas cards, please consider sending one to our MPs and senators - see post below - in support of ending these torturous journeys. We support our farmers, but there must be a better way.

How does our region rate for dog ambushes and human decency?

How does our region rate for dog ambushes and human decency?

I've said this before, but every dog deserves a peaceful walk without the fear of being ambushed or attacked by another dog. Recently, I've been disturbed by the surge in dog ambushes and attacks, and I'm not at all surprised that of the hundred or so articles I've contributed to 9Honey this year, one titled "What to do if an off-leash dog ambushes your dog" stood out as the most read and engaged-with piece.

Sadly, I experienced it first- hand again on the weekend.
Picture this: a young child, I'm guessing no older than five, was holding a large dog's leash while the adult was engrossed in their phone. The little one let go of the lead when their dog spotted Chilli, and chaos ensued. The unleashed dog charged straight at Chilli, attempting to attack him. Despite my yells for the owner to call his dog, he only looked up when he heard the commotion and growls of his dog.

Thankfully, Chilli is not a reactive dog and was physically unharmed but my emotional toll was significant. No dog ( or owner) should endure such a frightening and upsetting experience. But I think what disturbed me the most was the owner's response. After he pulled his dog off Chilli, there was no apology, and his words to me were, 'Go F**k yourself' Charming. Didn't your dog just attack mine who was minding his own business.(!)

Where has human decency gone? Imagine if the same happened to us or our children during a peaceful stroll – someone randomly yelling, abusing, or worse, causing harm or death. There would be absolute uproar.

As someone who has spent my career advocating responsible dog ownership, I am dismayed that this has become such a huge problem, and there is an urgency to address this issue. Every dog should be safe to have a walk.

Please share your thoughts and experiences; I promise I will read through all your comments, as upsetting as they may be.
