FUN FACT !!

It's true, the proper pronunciation of Betta is “bed-tah” and not “bay-tah.” It's believed that they have been named after a tribe of warriors with a similar name. Others believe Betta splenden is translated to “beautiful warrior” in Latin.

Whether you are looking to stock your pond or have new additions to your cold water tank, Big Als has the most colourful fancy and pond goldfish!

A common misconception of goldfish is they have a 3 second memory....believe it or not, they have a memory span of 5 months! They are also omnivore fish, loving both yummy bloodworms and other frozens, to pellets, and some vegetables!

Goldfish do need a filtered tank as they are heavy waste producers, but should not be placed in a tank less than 10 gallons, adding 5-10 more gallons per goldfish! It is best for the fish and the caretaker to not put goldfish in bowls, as it stunts the growth of the fish-- cutting the lifespan of this goldfish drastically. Taking proper care of a goldfish can allow their lifespan to be up to 15 years (30 for some species of goldfish) !

Happy Monday!
This little puffer is giving us all sides of sass! He is classified as a Stars and Stripes Puffer. He is known for his amazing personality and intelligence, being able to spot their handler in a room of people!
They need lots of space with a minimum of 180 gallons in a marine tank. Because they are semi agressive be sure to keep him fed and happy to keep the peace!

We have loads of little guppy friends to add to your tropical aquariums! Ranging from 4.99-5.99 ea. These little guys are guaranteed to add beautiful colour and movement into your tanks!

These little guys are hardy and can be put in 5-90 gallon tanks! We have both male and female guppies in stock.

Royal Blue Crayfish are definitely a fiesty pet to add to your collection! These fresh water crustaceans are native to Flordia and the flordia keys. The striking blue colour is a result of a genetic deficiency.

These little guys are super energetic and spend most of their time wandering the tank. They must be in a tank 30 gallons or larger, due to how big they get and the amount of space they need to explore.

They are NOT friendly however they can be housed with fast swimming fish.

The casing in the back part of the tank is from a newly molted crayfish, which is hiding in the rocks to protect itself while its new exoskeleton hardens!

RARE ARRIVAL!!!
These little guys are apart of the Barb family, with the common name "tri-colour barb". These fish are schooling fish, needing to be housed in a minimum of 20 gallons.

Tri-colour barbs are generally peaceful and come from Taiwan, Vietnam, China & Laos. Whats special about these barbs is the tri-colour pattern is from captive breeding, and do not spawn with this pattern in the wild.

They are currently being sold at 4.99 ea.

Happy Sunday!
We have Amano Shrimp Galore!
These little guys are excellent garbage collectors in fresh-water set ups! Unlike Cherry shrimp and other decorative shrimps, they are indifferent to softer or harder water and can thrive in either. They are perfect for community set ups that have lots of algae-- or if you just want a little more activity within your aquarium!
They are native to Japan & Taiwan.

We have small and jumbo size ranging from 4.99 to 5.99 ea.

Happy Tuesday!
Look at this beauty we have in store! The Peacock Mantis Shrimp is a brightly coloured crustacean that resides in the indo-pacific coral reefs. These shrimp are powerful hunters, and are well known for their extremely fast punch they do with their big claws to catch their prey. This punch is one of the fastest movements in the animal kingdom and is strong enough to crack aquariums!
