Today we have some news to share with our supporters, fosters, volunteers, and community members. In short, Nelson and I (Katelyn) have decided to dissolve Courageous Canines Rescue. Over the 11 months our personal life has had major changes and running a rescue is no longer something we can sustain. We are dedicated to animal welfare, behaviour, training, and so much more. We will continue this in our personal lives and aid in the community where we can. We are so proud of the change we have made in so many dog's lives, and we thank all adopters, fosters, volunteers and those who have supported us in doing so.

Socialization Walks will be taken over by Elevated Canine YYC starting in November. Please follow them on social media and head to their website to keep an eye on socialization walk dates, times and locations. Please make sure to support these awesome walks! https://elevatedcanine.ca

This also means we are selling everything we have bought over the years at a really reduced rate! We are donating everything that has been donated to us! We have brand-new martingale collars, leashes, crates, and other dog items for sale. Everything we sell will go to pay off our bills from the last six months of veterinary and training expenses.

If you are an adopter, please check your email or FB group as we go over all the adopter benefits and how we will continue to support you. If you have adopted a dog from us we also welcome you to join our CCR Family FB group. Please message us and we will add you!

Thank you to every single volunteer, foster, supporter and community member. To everyone who has donated, please know each and every penny has gone directly to the dogs. We are still working on paying off some incredibly large veterinary and training bills.

Sundays socialization walks are fast approaching!

Strathcona Park, SW Calgary

Level 1 - max of 6 dogs. This level is great for dogs who are nervous, need more space, reactive, fearful and excited around dogs/people. 12:30pm

Level 2 - max of 20 dogs. This level is great for all dogs who are able to be within 6-10 feet of other dogs and participate in group activities. 11:00am

In both levels we with on all things socialization and now we can help our dogs become neutral around dogs, people, and the environment.

Zora is spayed and vaccinated with DAPV, Rabies and Bordetella. She is dewormed and microchipped. She is 100% healthy!! She comes with a bunch of items to make her transition to her forever home seamless. Crate, blanket, harness, collar, leash, long-line, bowls, and toys! Socialization Walks are BACK!!!

What are socialization walks?

We started socialization walks to give dogs and their owners a safe place to train their dogs and become neutral to all things life. Dogs, people, bikes, kids, and much more. Our standard, original walk is now level two. We changed this as we saw a need for a space for dogs and their owners to have fewer dogs and more space.

We start each walk with some individual training games then work towards group games in level 2. Level 2 has a max of 20 dogs and this is meant for all dogs who can be within 15 ish feet of other dogs, humans etc. We go on a walk and overall have a great time socializing. In Level 1 we work on staying completely under the threshold, playing games, helping our dogs relax and then go on a walk! On the walk, we always incorporate fun things for our dogs to stay engaged.

Where are funds going?

Throughout June and July, we welcomed six dogs into our care who needed extensive veterinary care.

Zora came into care in mid-June and is the sweetest dog ever! She had to have three mammary lumps removed and biopsied. Luckily, these were non-cancerous!!! This was just over $1200.

Bear, Eden, Shylo and Roxy came into our care in early July.

Bear had a significant limp and needed x-rays, meds, and a full rescue work-up. He had his hind dewclaws removed, which struggled to heal. He had some tummy troubles and needed some help with his. He is also off to a rehab specialist, which we pay for. This is just over $1650.

Eden came in with a tummy needing a lot of work. She also got the full rescue workup and a dental to fix two broken teeth with the root exposed. This is just over $1200.

Shylo and Roxy got the full rescue work-up and some other minor things done, totalling just over $1100.

Grizz was neutered and had his hind dew-claws removed and a tooth pulled. His hind dew claws did not heal well, and he was in to see the vet multiple times. This little man has cost us over $1700 since he entered our care in February.

On top of this, we paid for a neuter of Grizz's brother Ice as they were finally old enough.

All other veterinary fees are little "regular" things that add up.

On top of all this, we provide training to every dog for free and included in every adoption! At least one private training session with a trainer AND socialization walks for life.

ADOPT ME!!

Meet Shylo!! This sweetheart Is an absolutely amazing 1-year-old female doggo! She is the perfect size at 55lbs!

She's doing great learning how to fit in with other dogs. After she settled in she has been doing really well with all dogs!

She is good on or off a leash. She wants to stay right by your side either way. She is happy, totally calm and mellow. As with all rescue dogs, Shylo is learning to play with other dogs and toys. She is getting there and learning the joys of life!

Shylo is good around livestock. She is crate-trained and house-trained. She loves her people, kids and adults; she just loves all the love, attention and affection.

She seems like an old soul, incredibly smart and strong-willed.
