It is with very heavy hearts that we share the sad news that we had to say good-bye to one of our clinic cats yesterday named Icy. She was diagnosed with an incurable cancerous growth in her mouth a couple of months ago. Icy lived a very full life and was a couple months shy of turning 17 years old. Icy came to our clinic as a stray when she was very young, and we transferred her to the Calgary Humane Society in case someone was out there looking for her. However, she was not claimed after a period of time, and so we adopted her back and she has been at our clinic ever since serving as one of our "PR cats" and just being a princess. She was aptly named “Icy” for her beautiful icy-blue eyes. Many clients will have met Icy over the years; more so when she was younger and was more adventurous about hanging out in the reception area to greet the clients and patients coming in to the clinic. She was not a real cuddly kind of cat, but she certainly enjoyed her head pets and body rubs when she was ready for them. To get your attention, she would jump up on her hind feet right in front of you and “head butt” the air. She would also rub her body up against your computer monitor over-and-over as she purred madly and made several little low growly chirping sounds, and then leave her hair all over your desk. Her trademark way of communicating with you was through her “silent meow” where she would just open her mouth as if to meow, but there was no sound made. Icy leaves a large hole in our hearts and will be incredibly missed by all of our staff and Rufus, our one remaining clinic cat. We love you Icy!
