This is Chico and he is a good example that different dogs do better in different situations and environments!
Before I was a dog groomer Chico had to have his nails cut at the vet. He would get extremely aggressive and would need multiple people to get the job done.
Once I started grooming I knew I had to find a way to clip his nails on my own. I tried having my boyfriend hold Chico, and he would freak out and try to bite. I tried to muzzle Chico, and same thing he would panic!
But one day I decided, hey forget all that and plopped Chico up on the grooming table. It was just me and him, no restraint, no muzzle. I was calm, he was calm. Clip, clip, clip (maybe a snarl here or there but nothing serious) and BAM! Job done!
Now I’m not saying restraint and muzzles are bad by any means if used properly. I’m just trying to explain that for some dogs like Chico, less is more! I do use muzzles for my own safety and do think that they are an important tool!
In short the point I am trying to make is every dog is different and as a pet professional I try my best every single day to find the right way for each dog. It may take me a few visits to figure out how to best make your pup comfortable for their grooming. Sometimes even longer, but once we find the right way it is always so rewarding 😊🐾
