It's Heartworm Season!

As we are now into June, heartworm season has arrived. Heartworm is a parasite transmitted by mosquitoes and can pose a serious risk to your dog's health.

Testing for heartworm is recommended every 2 years before starting prevention. Our lab has a combination blood test that screens for heartworm and tick-borne illnesses and is currently available at a discounted price until July 31st.

We recommend that heartworm prevention be given for six months, from June through November, to protect your dog from heartworm. Our hospital carries a variety of different options for prevention. If you have any questions about which option to choose one of our staff members can assist you with a recommendation based on your lifestyle and your dog's medical history.

Most companies will have rebates available for their products so please do some Google searching and let us know if you require anything from us. We have listed the rebate site for Nexgard and Nexgard Spectra products. www.nexgard.ca/en/home

Victoria Day Long Weekend Hours 🎆

If you are in need of a prescription refill or more food for your dog or cat please contact us by phone or email as soon as possible.

We place orders with our primary supplier daily. The deadline for Friday afternoon delivery is 12pm on Thursday. Please note that our delivery times vary day to day and some orders may not arrive until late in the afternoon.

Any medications that require compounding typically take a minimum of 48-72 hours to arrive in clinic after being ordered.

Spring is here and that means the beginning of heartworm, flea and tick season is fast approaching. We continue to recommend that your dog is tested for heartworm every 2 years and that they be on a monthly heartworm preventative for 6 months from June to November. Heartworm testing is available at a discounted price until the end of July. We have been working hard to ensure that everyone receives individual reminders for their dog(s) but if you do not hear from us, please reach out. Depending on your pet's lifestyle you may want to consider flea and tick prevention from April to May, as well.

Good morning!

This Friday, December 1st from 3pm until closing at 6pm we will be open for food and medication pickup only. We will also be closed on Saturday December 2nd and Saturday December 9th.

Please contact us as soon as possible if your pet is getting low on their medication(s) so that we can make sure it is ready for pickup prior to the weekend.

If you are experiencing an emergency with your pet over the weekend while we are closed please contact Southwest Veterinary Hospital at 519-672-1623. They are open 24 hours starting Friday evenings at 6pm until Monday mornings at 6am.

Our food and medication distributor is updating their network and computer system starting tomorrow afternoon. It is recommended that anyone that expects to need medications or food before next Tuesday afternoon put in their request by 9am August 30th!

Jan 1st, 2022- COVID

Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we are required to go back to 100% curbside appointments again. We understand this is frustrating, even infuriating for some of you. We understand that feeling entirely. We are right there with you. The COVID and government response to COVID is currently evolving rapidly. For now, we are making this decision to avoid a shutdown of the clinic due to illness or exposure. In consideration of the shortage of veterinarians, veterinary staff and emergency services in Ontario currently, any shutdown of the clinic could prove disastrous for patient health. We need to do the best we can to prevent this from happening.

Power outage August 4th- London Hydro has told us that there will be a power outage at our location today at 3pm. This is anticipated to last 1-2 hours but could be longer. As of right now we are planning on being closed from 3pm until 8am August 5th.
