Keep a vigilant eye on your pets…this is the first rabies case of the year here.

A Little Brown from has tested positive for after the creature was submitted for testing on Wednesday, July 24, as part of an investigation into a potential human exposure.

The person involved is receiving post-exposure treatment, which will prevent a rabies infection.

This animal rabies case is the first in Grey Bruce this year. We're advising the public to remain vigilant about the risk of rabies:

✅ Always refrain from touching, petting, or handling
✅ Avoid approaching or feeding wild animals.
✅ Keep pets away from wild animals and do not let roam unsupervised; and have your pets vaccinated for rabies
✅ Wildlife-proof homes, , and yards.
✅ Do not disturb baby animals.
✅ Warn children to stay away from wild or stray animals.
✅ Do not trap and transport wild animals to a new location.

Le Pooch Boutique is in Booth #2 at Meaford’s Pet Expo on July 20th.

Over 65(!) vendors this year, with a little something for everyone 🐾 Free entry, and (behaved, controlled) pets are welcome to join- a fun day out for the whole family. There’s a delicious variety of food, fun activities for kids, and plenty of pet vendors and community groups to visit.

🛍️ We’re going to have some expo-only sale items, available while supplies last. We’ll also have some giveaway bags distributed through the day (to keep it fair for all, not just the early risers 🤭).

Bring your pup (or at least their measurements) for bandanas, hoodies, and other goodies!

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
And thank you for supporting Canadian-made all year long! 🍁🐾

🇨🇦 I’ve received a few comments in the store lately about how enthusiastic I can get when dogs/owners are in searching for the perfect…anything (harness, greeting card, hoodie, snack…).

I can say that it comes easily and honestly, because I care so much for the items I’ve chosen to have in the store.

It’s easy to get excited when I believe in everything that goes out the front door, and when seeing the smiles on owners’ faces (and the bounciness of dogs in their new gear).

It’s easy to get excited when I believe in what Le Pooch offers.

It’s easy. Canadian-made means I trust what people are going home with. I trust the quality. I trust the process. I trust Canadian-made, and I’m proud to showcase the work and dedication of over 50 Canadian brands. I appreciate that I get to talk (in many cases) directly with the people making what’s here, and that we share a love for the bond and support dogs bring to our lives.

🥵 We’re in for a hot week!
Please keep your four-legged family members safe by remembering that dogs can suffer paw burns, sunburns (skin, nose), and heat stroke (leading to organ failure) during hot days.

Walks are best avoided altogether when temperatures rise, aside from quick bathroom breaks (or super-early morning). Trust me, your dog won’t mind…if you think they will, do some extra enrichment and throw in a little agility indoors- they’ll be just fine 🐶

🐾 If for whatever reason you must be out walking, and can’t stay on cooler grass/in shaded areas, summer boots are excellent for all dog sizes to avoid blisters/burns. (We have plenty in stock from Itty Bitty to Huge!)
🧴If your pup does burn their paws, we have several lick-safe and easy-to-apply lotions made specifically for heavy-duty moisturizing, to help ease their discomfort.
(Same goes for noses- many owners don’t think about it, but dog noses can easily burn! 🥥 Coconut oil is a natural protectant from the sun, alternatively we do have some snout screen available from $6)
👩🏻‍⚕️If your dog is clearly experiencing discomfort or distress, definitely take them into your vet- if blisters/burns are not cared for, they can lead to infections or other complications.

💧Next up: water bowls…many owners think they’re helping by throwing ice cubes into water after walks, but this can actually cause the opposite of intended effect.
Why? When you quickly cool their core, the body stops the natural cooling process, so instead of dilated veins/capillaries helping distribute heat through the body, they constrict from the temp drop (to hold heat) which can cause organ failure from overheating.
The best thing you can do is give some room temp water, and find some shade (no crazy-low AC…same effect not letting them cool naturally through panting and paw-sweats).

NEVER LEAVE DOGS IN CARS ON HOT DAYS
🌡️ Temperatures skyrocket in a matter of seconds/minutes, and not you, your dog, or any other animal can survive 100+ degrees in an enclosed space.
If you spot a dog left in a car, note the time and call either OSPCA, another local shelter, or OPP. The driver can be charged with animal abuse/neglect.

🫧 Clean ingredients for clean puppers! 🥒🫒🥥
Dandylionworld has just released some new products, and we’ve received our first shipments!
The lotion is in a really great tube setup, meaning you don’t have to get it on your hands to get it on your pooch’s paws (although it’s really lovely, and feels great- I’ve been testing it in the store for customers 🤷🏼‍♀️😂). Their super-mild ingredient list means it’s free from allergens and irritants, while remaining effective, so your dog can wear it as often as needed- great for preventing cracked paws (and soothing those that already are).

The Fresh Coat spray is great for some moisture and spot cleaning between baths, and will help keep the ‘doggy smell’ reigned in, too! Again, mild ingredients which will be safe for most dogs- and great for soothing skin issues, too.

The green waffle cloth is 100% cotton, and works well with the Paw Foaming cleanser (we have plenty in stock). 12” x 12” is the perfect size for keeping in your car to wipe post-walk paws- no more tearing through paper towels or wondering which cloth is the dog’s…unless you love it so much you want one for yourself! 🛁

Happy Rescue Dog Day! 🐾

is my ‘history mystery’ rescue, found wondering Muskoka in June 2022. He was brought to the SPCA unchipped and intact, and no one came forward for him. No idea how old he is (not a puppy, not a senior, so there’s a good few-year range for where he could be 😂🤷🏼‍♀️)
We had a little foster-to-adopt waiting period from August until November while he waited for a biopsy (little bump on his back was removed) and tooth extraction (he was already missing some before he came to me), but all was great and couldn’t wait to sign and know he was family for good!

The past (almost) two years has been filled with lots of love and laughs from him- goofy little guy with some bonus quirks.

🎆 Long weekends often mean fireworks will be going off all hours of the night, and our dear little furry family members can be easily spooked (even if they haven’t been in years past- behaviours change).

Please keep them indoors, and leashed anytime they’re outside. If you have a fenced backyard, please don’t leave them unattended- and never underestimate the power or agility of an animal in ‘flight’ mode.

🎇 Also, please be considerate of your canine and feline friends if you plan on celebrating with fireworks yourself- the lights and bangs can cause a lot of anxiety for pets. If you notice yours looks a little out of sorts or obviously stressed, remove them for the environment or cease lighting off more…it’s a perfect weekend weather-wise this year, and of course celebrating on long weekends can be fun, but your pets don’t understand what’s going on, and can react/behave in ways that can cause harm to themselves or others.

Keep safe!

Top-Right: 32oz. SS bowls- great for home and on the go💧These have a silicone ring around the bottom to help keep food in place for your hungry pupper. 🌤️ We have some sunshine tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday, so I’m going to get as much moved out of my house as possible before the rain hits Saturday ☔️

7-day weeks at Le Pooch are coming very soon!
Once I get settled through the first week or two in May, the store will be open at least 11-5 every day of the week, with longer hours Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (as it always has been).
