Rocky Hills Ranch is a new western horse facility located 10 minutes south of Okotoks, and a short 30 minute drive from Calgary. We offer beginner riding lessons and summer camps and horse boarding. Rocky Hills ranch provides excellent horses that know and love their jobs. For more information feel free to visit the website or email the ranch.

With broken hearts and tear filled eyes we announce the passing of the most famous horse at RHR.

He was a Christmas gift to a tiny Sloan, and it was on that cold December morning when she walked into the barn and said “That look like a Unicorn.” From that moment on Diamond Warrior would be forever known as UNICORN. 🦄
Unicorn was Sloan’s first horse love, and her go to mount for everything! Rodeos, pony club, mountain rides, working buffalo, and any wild idea she had. It quickly became apparent there was nothing this pony couldn’t do.
Unicorn had a true passion for jumping and he reminded us of that every time trot poles and cavaletties came out. His adorable little ears perked up and he gracefully floated over anything put in front of him. He quickly mastered all of the gymkhana games and at times had more fun than his riders did…Unicorn was truly talented at anything he did and he made it impossible to ride him without a smile on your face.

As a family we are eternally grateful to Unicorn for being a true wonder pony. He was a beloved member of our family, and we cannot thank him enough ❤️. Our barn and our hearts will not be same without Unicorn.

We certainly know we are not the only ones broken hearted over his loss. Unicorn touched the hearts of every rider who swung a leg over his back. He taught countless kids how to ride and what it felt like to love a horse. We would love if you could share your memories, photos and videos of Unicorn. I can certainly think of a few that stand out!

We are excited to announce the second foal of this year…. Charlie! And yes, another filly! This gorgeous little lady was born on May 25, and is the tiniest most adorable thing. Rosie is such a great mom and definitely passed on her roaning to her daughter. This little cutter has lots of spice, and is definitely a bit of a handful!

We would like to introduce… Lou! This gorgeous filly was born on May 4th and we couldn’t be more happy. Mattea has been an incredible mom, thank you to the team at Moore And Company for completing such a successful embryo transfer. She is an absolute joy and definitely has some spice! She is just one of two babies we are expecting this spring, so be prepared for lots of baby posts!

Animal Bio — Spike, the one who started the bunny craze! This little guy is the smallest of the bunnies and is arguably the cutest animal here at RHR. Spike is an Angora-Lionhead cross and is 5 years old! He enjoys bananas and blueberries, and being carefully held on his back in your lap until he falls asleep. Spike is a fluff ball that will absolutely melt your heart!

Horse Bio — Pepcid! He is another faithful lesson horse that is enjoying his second career (more like semi retirement) at Rocky Hills Ranch. During Pepcids career as a cutting horse he was a Canadian champion and Calgary stampede finalist. Now he is a beloved member of RHR. He enjoys packing little kids around and sometimes likes to show off his old moves!
