Some of our team spent the day helping SAINTS Rescue with their monthly senior wellness exams, nail trims, ear cleaning and general medical maintenance for their feline residents. We enjoyed every minute of the snuggles, head boops and purrs!
Thank you to everyone who contributed donations of their time or supplies and to the rest of the Guildford Animal Hospital team who stayed behind to take care of the pets at the clinic! ππ

We have a great team...here is our Guildford Animal Hospital ziplining trip to Whistler, BC this past summer:)
*** Thank you to all those that shared this post! She has been reunited with her owners!***
This beautiful dog was found last night at 11pm wandering on 152st and 64ave in the panorama area. She was picked up by our doctors and had some minor injuries to her pads cleaned and bandaged. She appears to be a German Shepherd and Doberman mix and appears to be between 2 to 5 years of age. She is very sweet and missing her home. Please share this poat and contact our clinic if you have any information.

Yawn...time to get home!
GAH has an interesting case (#3), MILO!!
Milo came our way after the fires in Fort McMurray as just a tiny 8 week old puppy. He was seen at the end of May for his first vaccines and appeared perfectly healthy and happy. Several days later he had some diarrhea and went home with some medication since he was still eating and drinking and very happy. When his diarrhea did not improve, a fecal test showed that he had parvo:( This was confirmed with blood work. One day later he was very sick.
The parvo virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body -- preferentially attacking cells in the intestine and causing vomiting, diarrhea and anorexia. Affected dogs can develop a high fever as the body tries to fight off infection and can become very dehydrated from vomiting, diarrhea and not eating or drinking...it is like a terrible flu in a tiny puppy and dogs can die from this infection without advanced treatment.
Milo's temperature rose very quickly from his body fighting this infection. He became quite lethargic and sick very quickly.
Fortunately, his new owner brought him in as soon as he was lethargic and he was treated aggressively with intravenous fluids, antibiotics and medications to make him feel less nauseous. He was in hospital for only 2 days (parvo can sometimes take up to a week to treat) and is now back in his new home!
What a tough little guy.
All puppies should be vaccinated every 4 weeks starting at 6-8 weeks of age up until they are 16 weeks old to prevent this disease and they are not fully protected until the final puppy vaccine.
