🥔 Potato’s First Formal Outing as a Therapy Dog! 🎄🐾

Today, our sweet Potato made her debut as an official therapy dog at the Carleton Place Canadian Tire! ❤️

Unlike service dogs, therapy dogs are meant to spread joy and happiness wherever they go—and Potato is already a pro at doing just that. We highly encourage people to approach and pet therapy dogs like Potato because their mission is to make every day a little brighter. 🌟

The wonderful staff at Canadian Tire were incredibly welcoming, allowing us to expose Potato to the bustling Christmas atmosphere—sparkling decorations, busy shoppers, and festive vibes. It was the perfect environment to build her confidence and share her love with the community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to say hi! Seeing those smiles was the best gift of all. 🎁

📣 Announcement: Nordik K9 York Region Closure

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Nordik K9 York Region due to unforeseen circumstances. This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate the support and trust of our clients and community.

We are fully committed to assisting all our current and past clients through this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

Unfortunately, this closure also means that we will no longer be supplying Inukshuk dog food in the York Region area.

Introducing Potato, Nordik K9’s official therapy K9! Currently in training after successfully passing her selection assessment with Watch My 6 Service Dogs, Potato is now available to bring comfort and companionship to emergency services, sensitive events, and community gatherings. She’s a testament to the idea that amazing dogs can come from anywhere, as she originally came from the Barrie SPCA. Nordik K9 is excited to extend their expertise in dog training to offer this unique and heartfelt service to the community through Potato.

The last couple of weeks have been particularly difficult for owner and head trainer, Elise. This sudden and horrific loss of her beloved partner and the dog truly responsible but kicking off Nordik K9 lost his life due to GDV. The circumstances behind his death were a shock. At this time, Elise truly appreciates those who have been showing love and support. Axel was an incredible dog and one that taught so many of us. He will be missed by many. 🐺

At 4pm, Axel started behaving strangely. He got off his casual walking speed treadmill and immediately wretched. For the next couple of hours he lay around the house, never seeming to get comfortable, all the while getting progressively more lethargic as his abdomen began to swell. At 8pm I rushed him to the Capital City Specialty and Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Kanata.
I had called ahead with his symptoms and suspicions and when I arrived we were immediately brought back into the triage area, where we confirmed the prognosis within just a couple of minutes.
We opted for surgery even though some would say a 10 year old dog is a gamble however, Axel prior to the incident was extremely healthy. He went in for surgery at around 10:30 PM with the on call surgeon, Dr. Merkins. The team worked incredibly hard and in the end had successfully completed the surgery at around 1:30 AM. The cause of the torsion, pounds and pounds of garbage that had been left outside and accessible to him through an incomplete fence that didn’t latch properly when installed. this disaster could 100% have been avoided. We are incredibly grateful for the staff at capital city hospital for their compassion and dedication to save Axel’s life.
Axel is presently still in hospital recovery and hopefully he can come home in a couple of days.

🇺🇸 While in Knoxville, Elise has been assisting with some of the puppers that needed a bit of extra TLC particularly with wound care. Big Boy Duke is always extra good for her while she performs his soak and wraps his injured paw. 🐾 He shows her extra love every time.

- Experience with Canadian and International Cold Case deployments
- Collaborated with the R.C.M.P., Ottawa Police Services, Montreal Fire Dept., Erie, PA Police, and Quebec Police

Rookie is going to be looking for his forever home shortly! He’s doing amazing here at the Nordik K9 household. He loves people and loves other dogs. This social happy boy has shown keen drive and motivation for any kind of sport work. We’ve been building his tracking and scent work mostly but he enjoys bite work and pretty much everything else.
