I had the great pleasure in the fall of 2021 to hang out with the Grizzly Bears of Chilko River, BC, and the good people at Tsylos Park Lodge. As an avid amateur wildlife and landscape photographer this trip did not dissapoint. The guides were amazing, people were awesome, and the food at the lodge was delicious. Did a nice hike up the mountain to an awesome clearing with views of the valley below. Clip of some of my photographs here.

As the pioneering American angler Lee Wulff said, “Game fish are too valuable to be caught only once.” The advent of catch-and-release fishing over the past 50 years has created opportunities for many more anglers to enjoy fishing and find success on the water. The key to effective catch-and-release fishing is proper fish handling. A hooked fish should be landed quickly, kept in the water as much as possible, and released quickly.

CATCH. AND RELEASE.

It doesn’t get much wilder than this, even at Tsylos. Hope your Wednesday is seeing you get through the week, swimmingly …see what we did there? 😉

Sometimes the release is almost as fun and satisfying as the catch!

Brooks, browns, rainbows, cutthroat. Do they really live in different places in a river? How can you narrow down where to look for trout if you know what kind live in a stream? In this video from the Orvis Learning Center, Tom Rosenbauer explores the various ways these trout species vary.
All of our fishing at Tsylos is catch and release. These tips from Orvis fly fishing mentor, Tom Rosenabuer, are invaluable for sustainability and conservation.

Now that summer is here, if you plan to release the trout you catch, here are seven easy tips from Tom Rosenbauer on how to release a trout with minimum handling time. It goes without saying that you should keep the fish wet and stop fishing at 68 degrees, but reducing handling time is the best way to ensure trout survival.
