Crescentwood Small Dog Play Group

Crescentwood Small Dog Play Group A small dog playgroup for dogs under 30lbs who would like to play with others the same size. Become a groupie and join the play!
(6)

We have been running our small dog playgroup for over 5 years and during that time we have had the opportunity to play with over 350 dogs! The Crescentwood Small Dog Playgroup runs within the boundaries of Pembina Hwy west to Kenaston Blvd. We have been fortunate to work closely with community centers in our area who have supported indoor and outdoor play environments for our small dogs. We welcome all small dog owners from across the city you don't have to live in our area to participate!

Fall planning is underway, here is an update to our petition

Well it's been over 3 months of chasing the city with no response - unless of course you call the unified message from every off-leash space the city message. What is that unified message? Well our city seems to believe that our OFF LEASH zones are SAFE for all dogs. So not even being able to rent a...

Still some spots available

Just a reminder- if you live in Winnipeg and need help getting your pet fixed, give Jessica a call at our office at 204-914-3287. City of Wpg residents only, there is no wiggle room on that detail, we are funded BY the city FOR the city.

Just another reminder- don't believe everything you read on social media. So much misinformation out there, I can't keep up. Our program is NOT just for "certain areas of the city and people who make under $30,000, $40,000 etc etc." Want accurate, up to date information about how to qualify for our services? Don't trust random confident comments on Facebook, they mean well but don't actually have accurate info. Call Jessica at our office at 204-914-3287 if you want correct and current info about our program!

Dog or cat. Male or female.

I don’t always have time or enough resources to post everything going on with our program on social media. So if you’re waiting for a post to say we have openings, you might miss out.

Instead, if you have pets who need to be fixed, just pick up the phone and give us a call to check on our current availability.

204-914-3287

This is a 1 person, 1 phone line office so you may need to leave a message but your call will be returned within 1-2 days. Don’t miss out, call to inquire about our program today!

Casting call

I am looking for 3 corgis from the same family or 3 dogs that are familiar with each other for a big feature film!

Dogs must be comfortable with people petting them and busy environments. Looking for dogs that can sit stay on a seat in a vehicle together beside an actor.
Film date unknown at this time but somewhere between August and September.

Open to other similar type dogs if in 3, like Frenchies. Small dogs only.

Email [email protected] with photos and dogs' level of training/experience.

News from the Corydon community centre… they will NOT be designating one of their rinks for off leash use.

Its always so heart warming to see the passion people have for our community- but then so sad that the hurdles for initiatives they drive are continually moved higher - so many community needs - so little resource.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR WINNIPEG

It is with a very heavy heart that I (Nicole, Founder of AFB) announce the immediate suspension of services in Winnipeg.

Despite working to collaborate with the Winnipeg Human Society, and despite taking on their overflow of services (they cap or capped their service at 40 request a week - we did not), they have remained uninterested in partnering and/or helping us operate.

They are, however, happy to take our donations of food to help them service their clients.

I'm tired. Our team is tired. We are tired of fighting for help, with an ever increasing need for our services, and unfortunately an increasing level of rude, ungrateful and mean clients.

We have a lot of amazing clients too - don't get me wrong. And the decision to shut our doors is not one I make lightly. I have not had a break in the four years I've been doing this - I don't give up easily and I don't consider this giving up. I do think AFB needs to shift and refocus and I'm not sure what that will look like yet for our Winnipeg branch.

In January of 2023 I suffered a head injury that has resulted in brain damage that is not healing as fast or as well as my medical team would like. I've been ordered off work for six months. I was trying to keep up with my volunteering for AFB regardless but it's not working.

Effectively immediately we will not be taking any more requests for help in Winnipeg.

Right now, we hope this shut down is only for the Summer. But we were turned down for a grant for warehouse space (which we were going to share with other non-profits, including the Cheer Board, in Winnipeg) by the Winnipeg Foundation. Animals are just not priority in the sector and that's not okay.

For now we are still operating our Medicine Hat and Osoyoos branches and if that changes, we will announce it here.

We will finish filling the requests in our queue right now as best we can (currently over 70 of them) and then donate the rest of the food we have to other organizations, starting with the WHS so they can hopefully fill the gap our closure creates.

if this doesn't sit well with you - our closure - please email the city and the province and the WHS and ask them what they can do to help us reopen.

We need warehouse space.

We need funding.

We need help.

This is also a reminder for people - especially clients of services like ours. Be kind, be patient, don't be demanding and expectation and critical. This service is not mandated or funded. And now we have to shut our doors because of that.

Updated note: We will still be fundraising over the summer as we attempt to raise enough for the lease of a small warehouse space so we can create storage capacity to be able to bring in the large donations and create a repository to be able to help service our pet food bank cleints but also provide food to other orgs in need. We've been working on over 200 pallets of food over the last couple of months which we've shared with countless orgs and communities across manitoba, including the Winnipeg Humane Society.

The WHS Emergency Pet Food Bank provides dog and cat food for pet owners who need it. When our capacity is stretched, our community steps up, and right now we're asking for donations.

🚨We need:
dry dog food 🐶
dry cat food 🐱
lg & xl freezer bags
reusable bags

Any goods can be dropped off right at the shelter @ 45 Hurst Way. If you have any questions about the program, check out the link below, and THANK YOU! ♥️

It's so heart breaking to read the online stories of small dogs being injured and killed in our off leash parks this week (and it's only Monday!) So no news from the city or community centre about our requests. So time to get a little noisy people. Sign this petition!

Our story

It is the third season of the Small Dog Play Group!

Inspired by my little Chewie - the group continues to entertain, inspire and build confidence in our little neighbourhood dogs. Join us weekly for the opportunity to meet other small dog owners, watch your dog explore, play and observe other dogs their size. It is amazing to see them after a few groups their confidence and the excitement when they come.

With the success of the last two year, I continue to secure special insurance and a pay for the space so I am hoping that I can recoup those costs, in collecting $5 per dog. Please feel free to bring toys - but not their favourites as other dogs may take them. * Dog owners need to stay with their dogs * Dog owners are responsible for clean-up of accidents. (materials will be on hand) * TIP: Try and let your dog relieve themselves outside before coming in * Please carry your dog into the building - less opportunity for contact with kids * Any accidents in the common areas needs to be cleaned up ASAP So looking forward to Sundays!
