🌟 C U S T O M E R U P D A T E 🌟

We have exciting news!!

Our wonderful stylist Melissa will be increasing her hours at the salon and coming onboard full time. This is brilliant news and we are so thrilled to have her! Mel’s availability will be opening up for Thursday afternoons, Saturdays and Mondays from the beginning of August. This means the salon opening times will be changing slightly but we will update you all on this soon.

Mel has been working at the salon for nearly three years now, and it’s been so lovely to watch her progression as a groomer and offer her a safe environment to learn and grow 🫶🏻

We will always put humanity before vanity!

We are here for your dog, we are their voice, their advocate. If your dog comes to us matted, it will be clipped short.

⭐ Matted Dog Policy 🙃

If your dogs coat is in a matted condition, it will be necessary that the matted fur be clipped out or the coat be cut short all over, depending on the severity. This will cost more than a regular groom.

🐶 Your dogs coat will re-grow quickly (a matter of weeks!) we can then get them back into their style ✅

🐶 Brushing out matted fur is a very painful and unnecessary process for your dog to suffer and can cause damage to the skin and coat, therefore this will not be done.

🐶 We will NOT hurt your dog so that it looks nicer! SIMPLY NOT HAPPENING, SO PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT OR ASK FOR THIS ❌

Things to remember:

🐶 Your dog may feel a little strange after a short clip, this is normal but they quickly adjust!

🐶 Your dogs will respond to how you react to them! So if you are horrified: *oh no what have they done to you!* you may find your dog behaves in a sad or depressed fashion - they've picked up on your negative feelings but don't understand what's wrong, so will often hide or 'sulk' or even shake/tremble ☹ Dogs are sooo sensitive and intuitive, so its important to make a happy fuss of them and tell them how gorgeous they look even if you're not feeling it! 🥰

🐶 Most feel liberated so will run and roll about excitedly! 😄🤪

🐶 Groomers never clip off matted coats to 'save time' or because we 'can't be bothered to dematt' These short clips not only take much more time than a regular groom - they are extremely taxing on both groomers bodies and our equipment! It also blunts and damages our expensive blades which is why we have to charge extra - to get them serviced/repaired/replaced. One matted clip off will cost us money to service our equipment!

Remember, your lovely dogs showcase our work! 👀

So we'd much prefer to keep your dogs in an attractive style but again, we love your dogs and we won't hurt them to accomplish this. ❤️

His mummy is also very talented with her beautiful illustrations and we are very VERY excited to be collaborating with her! ✨ N I C H O L A ✨

When I first interviewed Nichola I knew there was some special about her. She told me how she dreamt of being a groomer and had pursued her dream for years but had no luck in finding someone to train her. She smiled when she talked about her passion for grooming and I could tell there was a sparkle there.

Nichola only started at Fancy Paws in February 2024 but in a little over two months she has truly come into her own. She definitely has the skills, her confidence just needs a little work, but that’s where our team does their magic 🪄 With the right support around her, Nichola is set to be one a truly remarkable groomer! We are so lucky to have her on our team, what an asset she is! 🫶🏻

Nichola has a very calming and nurturing aura about her. The dogs that she greets in the salon take to her instantly. She naturally mothers us and likes to ensure we are all ok.

This is what she had to say….

‘Hi I’m Nichola and I absolutely love my
job at fancy paws. Fiona has given me the opportunity to train to become a groomer and the whole team is so supportive. Previously I worked as a grooming assistant for around 7 years. So when I was offered a job as a trainee at fancy paws I was over the moon. My favourite thing about dog grooming is meeting all the lovely doggies and getting to spend time with them. In my spare time I love going on long dog walks with my shihpoo Izzy and spending quality time with friends and family.’

Nichola met her hubby when she was just 18, who said romance was dead?!? They have two beautiful daughters together. She talks about her family with so much love and affection.
She is also very easy to wind up… sorry Nic!! 😂

✨ M E L I S S A ✨

There’s so much I can say about our Mel, she is walking sunshine, she makes the whole world a happier place to be ☀️

Melissa started at Fancy Paws in August 2021. She didn’t have any dog grooming experience but it was clear that she lived and breathed everything ‘dog’ 🐶 My goodness has she excelled herself! Mel was Fiona’s assistant and worked extremely hard. Within 18 months she was fully trained as a groomer. She’s such a natural when it comes to grooming, and she is so eager to learn and develop further, constantly challenging herself to be better.

Mel is incredibly vivacious and such a pleasure to be around. Nothing is too much trouble for her. The salon is a brighter place for her being there. 💛

Here’s what she had to say…

‘Hi I’m Melissa & I am an enthusiast for all things dogs 🐶
I split my working time between Dog Grooming and positive reinforcement Dog Training, which interlink really well.
I made the transition from a Retail Manager during lockdown & I can happily say I’ve never looked back!!
Working with dogs is extremely fulfilling & I’m fortunate enough to work around a lovely bunch of ladies too.
My favourite pass time is countryside walks with my dogs; Eli the Husky cross + Kobe the Cocker Spaniel.
In my spare time I also enjoy aerial hoop, spin class & spending quality time with friends and family 🤗’

You don’t see many Irish Water Spaniels around but today we were luckily enough to pamper this very special boy.

Milo is huuuge, the photos do not do him justice. He is a big bundle of goofy love. It was a mammoth job but we loved every minute.

Next up is our lovely Lilly 💛

Lilly started at Fancy Paws in February 2024, she is a Level 2 City & Guilds qualified groomer and works at the salon part time.

Lilly is our very own in house comedian. She has us in fits of giggles all day with her quick wit and American impersonations. She has fitted into the salon perfectly.

It’s clear Lilly has a love of animals, especially dogs and horses. She is keen to develop and perfect her grooming skills, with a particular interest in Asian fusion grooming.

Here’s what Lilly had to say…

‘My name is Lilly, I am Level 2 City & Guilds qualified, I have been a dog groomer for 3 years. I have recently started at fancy Paws, so far I am loving it! My favourite part about being a dog groomer is how rewarding it can be! When I’m not working I love being with my own dogs Iris & Boo and spending time outside with my horses. As well as time spend with my friends and family😊’

✨ H O L L I E ✨

First up is our beautiful Hollie 💛

Hollie joined Fancy Paws in June 2022 as an assistant. She learnt so quickly, it was clear she had a passion and a natural flair for dog grooming ✂️

After a brief hiatus to care for her poorly little boy, she was back and very keen to learn. Hollie is now in training to become a fully fledged doggy stylist and it’s clear that she has an excellent eye for detail.

Hollie currently works adhoc so she can balance work with looking after her young family. Here is what she had to say…

‘Hi, I’m Hollie I am an assistant groomer training to become a groomer thanks to the opportunities Fiona has given me working here at Fancy Paws Boutique. I am currently working ad-hoc due to having a young family to work around and I love every minute of working with the doggies and the lovely team of girls here. I joined the team after finishing my level 3 extended diploma in animal care and science and working as a dog walker/pet sitter, but quickly found a passion for grooming. My favourite part of the job is obviously the cute dogs! but also the satisfaction I feel at seeing the end result of a good groom. I really enjoy grooming large dogs as they have a soft spot in my heart, but also like anything fluffy that needs a good deshed or trim! I spend most of my free time on my farm with my horses, donkeys, cows, dogs, cats... too many to list, but you get the idea, I just love animals! My own dogs are 3 rottweilers Roxy, Gunner and Rocky and a sassy chihuahua opal, he loves visiting the salon and getting attention from anyone he can while he’s there!’

We are so excited as it’s Crufts week this week! It’s time for myself and Mel to completely immerse ourselves into all things DOG 🐩 🐕🐶🐾

Today was a big day for this little lady! Her first haircut! ✂️

‘‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop
Not a groomer was stirring, they’d all come to a stop
The stockings were hung by the driers with care
Unfortunately, each one was stuffed with hair

The bathers were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of chapped hands danced in their heads
The groomers new clippers were nestled in her lap
She had just passed out, ‘‘twas a long needed nap

When in reception there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
Away to the reception desk I flew like a flash
Forgot about my new clippers, they fell with a crash

The moon high in the sky shone in through the door
Illuminating paw prints I’d missed on the floor.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight filthy reindeer
With a little old driver, I almost felt sick
I knew in a moment, it must be St. Nick

He never pre-booked but each year he came,
I kept calling to remind him but it was always the same.
‘Now Dasher!, now Dancer!, now Prancer and V***n
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen.
To the top of the porch, inside the hall
It’s time for some grooming, baths for you all!’

Twigs and leaves stuck to them, mud up to the eye
When I laid eyes on them I thought I would die.
So into the bathing room every one of them flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, Blitzen stopped for a poo!

And then, softly, I heard a throat clear
Santa looked bashful, he wouldn’t come near
For he knew that we’d worked for fourteen days straight
Right at this moment, he pondered his fate.

‘Dear Groomer’ he said, staring down at his feet
‘I need you to help me, even though you feel beat’
‘My reindeer are filthy, they stink like a skunk’
‘How would you like riding behind them getting covered in gunk’

I stood there, mouth open, tried to hold back the tears
Why could he not book ahead after all these years?
But I saw straight away I would have to be quick
I couldn’t be responsible for letting down old St.Nick

I woke all the bathers, they complained with good reason
As I told them about our last job of the season.
I saw teeth grit, thought I was in for a fight
But they rolled up their sleeves, I was so proud that night.

Water was turned on, bathing systems priming
Reindeer into the bath with military timing.
First shampoo, conditioner, rinse then HV’d
Some carding to finish, in the cage hope none pee’d!

When we all finished up, the reindeer each looked divine
I went to the drawer for the very last time
Bandannas were cut and tied on one by one
A little spritz of cologne and voila, they were done!

Tears welled in his eyes as Santa looked at his team
‘Groomers saved Christmas’ and so it would seem
And as they flew off, a faint voice I did hear….
‘Groomer, can I pre-book for the same time next year?
