***PET OF THE MONTH AUGUST - FRED***
Fred came into GP Vets as his owners wanted to seek a second opinion following a Road Traffic Collision, and saw Vet Jonathan Wray. His left hind leg was fractured. Fred was admitted for radiographs to assess the extent of his fracture. After long discussions with Fred's lovely owner, it was decided that, due to the severity of the fracture, the best course of action for Fred's quality of life would be to amputate his hind limb.
Since then, Fred has become a different dog! He is now the bouncy 7 month old puppy you would expect to see; he has adapted to life on three legs so well and hasn't let the loss of a leg slow him down. We are thrilled to see how happy he is and how quickly he has recovered.
Fred's owner tells us "He is a different dog since his surgery. He has come out of his shell, gets so excited when he sees his lead and he seems to never get tired! He runs around the garden at full speed and is happy to play with other dogs. I was so worried about his quality of life with three legs - I needn't have worried - he is loving life. Thank you so much for all your care; thanks to Jonathan Fred is no longer afraid of me, which is strange seeing as he cut his leg off!!"
At GP Vets, we believe in giving something back to the community. Every year, we ask our team for nominations and get them to explain why supporting a charity is so important to them. We are sure you will agree that robbiesrally is one of the most worthwhile causes we have chosen to support. Here's Kate to tell us why her nomination won through this year...
Very sadly, Robbie is no longer with us, but his fighting spirit and sense of wanting to do the right thing lives on in the charity he created. Please be as generous as you can in supporting us at sponsored events, in donation boxes at the surgeries and at the various fetes and fairs we will be attending during 2017. THANK YOU!

PET OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER - ALBIE MURFITT
Albie is the most adorable cockapoo puppy. He is now 3 months old and growing fast.
Last month, when Albie was only 2 months old, he had quite a serious accident. Albie managed to take a tumble down some stairs. His owners rushed him into us to be checked and whilst initially he seemed ok he deteriorated rapidly. It became apparent he had suffered a head trauma and was having neurological problems as a result. Albie became unable to walk properly or stand up and kept twisting his head to the right hand side. After a thorough examination, we were relieved to find that Albie had no other significant injuries.
Albie was admitted to be closely observed and treated by our vets and nurses. Often with these injuries, you need to allow time for swelling to subside and the neurological signs will improve but everyone was very worried about him. Little by little he started to show signs of improvement during the course of the day. As he was so small the nurses needed to feed him by syringe as he was not able to eat by himself. It was also important he was keep warm and comfortable. The nurse that evening noticed he was becoming more alert and starting to wag his tail when she fed him.
The following day Albie returned to us to be reassessed and his owners were very pleased to show us how Albie had improved. He was able to stand but his head was still turning a little to the right. When he went home later that day he was better still. A week later Albie came back to finish his vaccination course and was completely back to normal. His family are overjoyed. What a lucky pup!
Walking through a French market and you see this. Can YOU spot the cat? #justanordinaryday #clevercat
