HEAT WARNING.

As we are starting the hottest day of the year, we would like to remind everyone about a few things:

1. DONT walk your dog in the day - This could lead to heat strock or burnt paws from the pavement.

2. Leave plenty of water available and a shady place to sleep I the house.

3. Do NOT leave your dog in the car.

4. If you have an appointment with us today and it is not essential and you walk then we would recommend postponing it.

5. If your cat has white ears, put sun cream on it.

Let's enjoy our hot day together!!

Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful.
We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell.
Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal. ❤️‍🩹

When the temperatures rise, it's important to ensure our pets stay safe. Read up on some tips and tricks to keep your furry friends cool in the heat.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five
British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss. Hearing
Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to
alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke
alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry. Their burgundy coats also act
as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that
their partner is deaf. Donations raised through Pennies when you pay
by card help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Just a small
donation can make a big difference!

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer?

If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health
Certificate (AHC) for them.

An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV).

Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a
qualified OV because not every practice will have one.

RAW Part 5: Neutering

Neutering means removing the reproductive organs; this is
either the ovaries in females (known as spaying) or the
testicles in males (known as castration). Neutering is a
routine procedure that does not require overnight
hospitalisation, with an average recovery time of 5-10 days.

If you wish to discuss neutering your rabbit. Please book a free pre operation check with our rabbit loving vet Zoe.

Find out more about the benefits and risks of netuering your
rabbit here: vetcollection.co.uk/health/should-i-neuter-myrabbit

RAW part 4: Microchipping

Microchipping rabbits is not a legal requirement but
is strongly recommended. Rabbits are excellent
escape artists and, if they manage to escape the
garden, it can be difficult to identify where they
have come from.

microchipped here:

☀️ The weather is heating up this week, so please be mindful of your pets. We have some hot weather advice to help ☀️

If you walk your dog to the practice and it's not urgent. Please consider rescheduling as we saw lots of sore, red feet today

☀️ Make sure pets have cool shaded areas to relax in.
☀️ Make sure there is plenty of fresh cool water available.
☀️ Keep your house cool
☀️ Never leave your dog in a hot car. It can take as little as 15 minutes for a dog to die in a hot car.
☀️ Always have water with you when you take your dog out.
☀️ Walk your dogs when it is cooler - either early in the morning or later in the evening.
☀️ Be aware that pavements can become extremely hot and burn dogs paws.

RAW Part 3: Dental disease

Since you cannot check your rabbit’s teeth at home,
it is important to look out for signs of dental disease.
There are many things that you can look out for that
might indicate that your rabbit has some sort of
dental health issue.
If you notice any of these signs, it is important that
you bring your rabbit to your vet for an oral
assessment as soon as possible. Stopping eating
altogether is an emergency.

RAW part 2: Vaccinations

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep
them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly
vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them
vaccinated early.
Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need
yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain
immunity.
Find out more about vaccinations for rabbits here:

This week is National rabbit awareness week. Get ready for rabbit cuteness and information!!

Part 1: Flystrike
Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in
rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity
or arthritis).
Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be
checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find
any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your
rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible.

Take Your Dog to Work Day

There is no denying the fact that dogs can
help to alleviate stress in the workplace. In
fact, a survey conducted by The Kennel Club
revealed that 70% of people think dogs
reduce stress within a working environment,
and even stroking a dog is said to reduce
blood pressure.
Is your four-legged friend taking a trip to your
workplace today? Why not share a picture with us?
