Hello all

Last week someone decided it would be a good idea to take some stuff from my car whilst I trained my dogs.

They stole a new Ridgeline smock, a pair of binoculars (Bushnell) and three Rohm starter pistols and my shotgun certificate. This was near Tormarton.

I wonder if you could all keep an eye out for them. You never know!

The main reason for this post though is to remind you all that there are people out there that aren’t that nice.

I was getting a bit relaxed about stuff that I keep in my truck and this has been a good wake up call for me.

So don’t take any chances.

Stay lucky everyone

Pic for attention.

A lengthy video where I sometimes loose the dog from the frame. Wind noise stops you hearing what I’m saying. A blind retriever that needed some handling over roughly 250 meters I would think. Thanks for sticking with it if you do!!

The forecast was a bit rubbish today with high winds promised. However client’s dogs don’t train themselves so we cracked on with some foundation work. I visited Fern Farm Canine Country Club - Doggy Day Care, Grooming and Training so as well as training in the beautiful valley I could also get another client’s pup a haircut!!!Very smart!
Thanks very much! A one stop shop!

A series of videos from today. Not perfect but there you are, I’d rather show it as it is and hopefully show everyone that training is training. We keep trying to achieve.

I’d also like to dedicate this post to my late friend Sarah Inglis who sadly passed away last weekend. RIP Sarah . Bless you

A little group of Labradors today. We have been focusing on ensuring the sit whistle is obeyed before anything can happen! I have found that by scaling things down and giving set exercises my handlers are able to be much more effective. Mainly because it is because there are physical prompts that remind us of what to do and when to do it. We would then scale it up later. The dog is also happy as it also knows what’s coming next. Well done Dave and Ivy. Thank you

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable season.
I had a lovely season, with most of my shooting being in the presence of great friends who share my love of dogs and the scene. I never worry about how many we had, as to me that is not what it’s all about.
The final days of this season were made even more special by my dog Lenny. I showed him a bit more this year and he looked ready to trial!.He looked like he started to piece it all together. I have never ran in a retriever trial, always spaniel trials for me, but I felt that I had to. Just to experience it and see how we got on.
A learning experience, hopefully. The boy did well , picking up a third, gun’s choice and keeper’s choice. The top four were made up of myself and three handlers who have been there and got the T-shirt so I was beyond happy.
So a big well done to my dog Lenny and thank you to all of the people involved in the trial that made it such a pleasurable experience. In this case it was Beth Payne’s club the North Devon Gundog society. I urge you all to get behind these clubs as the pastime of field trials and the dog training involved cannot be lost! It is too valuable.

Well done Lenny, thank you

I enjoy almost all of my training sessions but this one last week was very enjoyable for me to hold. I tried to recreate a driven shooting scenario by first putting out a number of challenging blind retrieves before the session and then using the launchers tried to offer lots of different marks. The dogs had to sit and wait for a while ( approximately ten minutes) while the banging and throwing occurred. Once all the dogs cleared up the marks we set about trying for the blinds. As usual there where some weaknesses but that just provides homework. Thank you as always to all my customers and landowners for their continued support and friendship.
