TRICKS IS BACK - 26th September 6.30pm - 4 week block.
No tricks experience necessary but it is helpful if your dog can follow basic cues such as sit, down, wait etc.
It is a large indoor venue with a sand surface, so plenty of space is available but please contact us before booking if your dog has special requirements when working around others.

Harnesses don't cause pulling. The harness Peaches is wearing here is there for the same reason one might use a collar: just in case the dog suddenly lunged forward etc, but unlike a collar a harness doesn't push on the delicate structures within the neck. Dogs don't pull because they are wearing a harness. They pull because it is self-reinforcing. The dog gets what they want out of the behaviour and therefore it is repeated the next day. If you want to stop your dog pulling, you have two main choices. Choice A is to make walking by your side more reinforcing than pulling forward, by rewarding eye contact and position and not allowing the dog to move forward while the lead is tight. Choice B is to phyically hurt the dog when they pull, so that the dog learns to avoid the pain. I know which method I would rather use! It even works on spaniels ;) Harnesses DO put the dog's weight through the shoulders so if your dog already pulls they will feel stronger in a harness, but the problem is still the pulling, not the harness. Once your dog is great at walking on a loose lead you can then put pulling on cue so they can help you up hills! If you need help training your dog to walk on a loose lead, send me a DM to get started!
Check out some of our Adolescents learning the first stages of an emergency stop! This was the handlers' very first session begining to teach this so I'm super proud of them.
Emergency Stops, like most behaviours, should be taught in small, easy to achieve steps so that the dog fully understands what to do. One day, wehn this is finished, it may just save their life.
If you're interested in learning some new things, and of course brushing up on the basics with your young dog, we have spaces on our next Adolescent Course, starting Tuesday 5th July 7.30pm in Shirehampton. Open to all dogs age 6 months up. Please pm if your dog is nervous/reactive so we can determine if the class would be appropriate.

Do you fancy learning some cool tricks like this, and taking your training to the next level?
Trick Training isn't just for showing off (although many dogs & handlers love that aspect of it!), it strengthens your bond and importantly, it improves your training skills for the stuff that DOES really matter.

After the success of our standalone trick workshops over the years, we have now organised a 4 week mini-course so we can build on skills week-by-week and progress more complex tricks and chains like this one.
We'll also throw in some quick & easy wins tooπ
The 4 week course starts on Monday 6th June at 7pm at Avon Riding Centre, BS10 7QT.
