Now is a great time of year to bring your pet in for a pre-winter health check! ❄️

In this nose to tail check, our team will cover the following:

✔️ Looking to identify any underlying health issues that might be exacerbated by cold weather ie arthritis.
✔️ Checking their weight – for cats in particular, reduced physical activity over winter can lead to weight gain.
✔️ Examining their teeth – let’s face it, no one wants toothache (or a bill for dental treatment) over the Christmas period. Dental issues are often easier (and less expensive) to treat if caught earlier.
✔️ Checking for evidence of parasites – fleas and worms aren’t just a summer problem, and the last thing you want this winter is to be sharing your festivities at home with thousands of fleas.

Our Pet Health Plan VIPs can even receive their pet's parasite prevention medication direct to their letterbox when treatment is due for only £2.50 per month!

"Over the last 3 weeks, I've had to take both my dog and cat to the vets. The vets were amazing, and put my mind at ease, and so helpful. The reception team were fantastic and went out of their way to talk to me and are happy to help too. And thanks to them all now I have two very happy pets and are back on the mend, I would not go anywhere else."

Today is World Diabetes Day. This can affect pets in much the same way as it does us humans. As pets get older, the chances of developing diabetes increases significantly, with around 1 in every 100 developing this condition over the age of 12 years.

Read this blog post to understand the symptoms of diabetes in pets, how we test for diabetes and how the condition is managed.

Today is National Kindness Day! 🥰 And what a great opportunity to share an update on our lovely Vet Nirvana at The Pet Vet Morden, who recently spent 2 weeks on a workplace sponsored trip, volunteering her time and skills to work with Animals Fiji!

On her experience, Nirvana says: "During my time with Animals Fiji, I assisted with a huge range of consultations and surgery. This varied from neutering dogs and cats of all ages, wound stitch-ups, urinary catheters in cats, chemotherapy for dogs, bandaging leg fractures, and so much more!

"All the staff hold animal welfare to the utmost priority, providing compassionate care despite lack of resources and limited funds. Fijian culture is one of kindness and this resonated throughout the work of Animals Fiji.

"This experience not only allowed me to contribute to the well-being of animals in need but also enriched my professional and personal growth. The chance to apply my skills in such a meaningful setting has been truly rewarding, and I’m incredibly thankful to The Pet Vet for making this possible.”

For our golden oldies, the risks of poor dental health increase with age 🦷

If you have a senior pet who hasn't had their teeth checked in a while, bring them in to see our team so you can feel confident they're not in any pain or discomfort.

Just like with us humans, dental health checks are important for pets of all ages. When problems are caught at an earlier stage, they can be easier (and cost less) to treat. Preventive care is the way forward! ✔️

Jordan in our insurance team started off this month freshly shaven, as he's taking on the challenge to grow a tache for Movember!

Jordan says: "Movember is a charity that's particularly close to my heart. My close friend's father is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. I want to be able to do my bit to show support and spread awareness of conditions affecting men's physical and mental health."

Any donations are so gratefully received. If you would like to support Jordan this Movember, you can donate here: https://bit.ly/3YC605d

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month, and today we're sharing Ruby's story with you ❤️

This gorgeous girl is a 6-year old Doberman Pincher who is currently receiving treatment in our group for lymphoma - a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system and immune system. She's in the very safe, caring hands of Veterinary Surgeon Luke. Ruby has had her second week of chemotherapy, and the team are keeping a very close eye, managing side effects of her medication with symptomatic treatment.

Here's Luke and Ruby together while she was receiving her chemotherapy. 💕
