After a bit of reorganising a few clients, and also adding a couple of extra groom dates….I now have some extra slots available Sept-Dec.

I will publish what I have for each month, and also pin to the top of this business page.

If you can comment with time you wish to book on the month you need, and I’ll confirm your appointment once it has been booked for you.

PLEASE NOTE - Some slots are 1 hour bath/mini groom appointments, so please do not request these if your dog requires a full groom appointment.

29/07/2024

Can I please ask all clients that if you have a full groom booked, and only require a mini groom, to please let me know prior to your appointment.

Mini grooms, or bath only appointments, take about half the time of a full groom, and the ‘spare’ time could be offered to another client x

Well that’s our holiday over, and we’re back grooming this week!

The forecast for the rest of this week is still very warm, with temps hitting 70*f ☀️. That temp increases considerably in our wee salon with dryers and showers going.

As a result, it may be the case that your dog will be left damp to lessen the time they are under the dryer, OR that I have to make the decision to cancel a groom if salon temps are unsafe for your dog.

I would ask for your understanding if I have to make that decision, that it may be at short notice, and more likely to be with an afternoon appointment when temps are highest. 🌡️

Thanks in advance

Why are grass seeds a problem for dogs?
Grass seed injuries are a common problem for dogs during summer months. When examined closely, some grass seeds resemble tiny arrowheads which attach themselves easily to an animal's fur and burrow into the skin. Breeds with hairy ears and hairy feet are more at risk if walked in meadows or woodlands where these grasses commonly grow in abundance.

Which body parts are affected by grass seeds?
The two most common areas of a dog affected by grass seeds are the foot and the ear, although other places on your dog's body can be at risk too.

Grass seeds on the feet
Grass seeds commonly get in between the toes of the dog's foot, referred to as the interdigital space. Once attached to the surrounding soft feathery fur, the grass seed then makes its way towards the foot itself, easily penetrating the thin skin before starting to burrow deep into - and through - highly sensitive tissues of the foot resulting in extreme pain, discomfort, infection and sudden onset (acute) lameness.

Grass seeds in the ear
The second most common place for these seeds to cause problems is down the ear canal. Their uni-directional nature and shape allows the grass seed to work its way from the fur around the ears down along the ear canal, and come to rest right up against the delicate ear drum.

How can I tell that my dog has been affected by grass seeds?
Common signs of grass seeds affecting your dog include:

shaking its head
licking its paws
looking uncomfortable
being lethargic
seeming like it's in pain
If your dog is showing any of these signs, contact your vet immediately.

We hit a new PB in salon today of 30*C (86*F) and took the decision to cancel a groom this afternoon! 🥵

I’m hoping it’s a bit cooler over next couple of days, but should this heat continue, it may be the case I have to cancel your appointment and reschedule.

Your dog may also leave the salon still damp, to reduce the length of time under the dryer in this heat.

I will always do my best to advise you as soon as practical of any change to your groom appointment….and as always your dogs welfare ALWAYS comes first!

Just another reminder that the salon will be closed all of July and there will also be no cancellation appointments available during this time.

☀️☀️☀️ CLIENT NOTICE ☀️☀️☀️

Just a reminder to all clients that the salon will be closed for our summer holidays from 1st-30th July this year.

As no dogs will be seen during these dates, there will also be NO cancellation slots available either.

As advised at the start of this year, should your dog need groomed during this time, you will need to book with another groomer. If you wish details of your dogs grooming requirements, please get in touch and I can provide to pass onto the groomer you choose to visit.

Have a Happy bank holiday everyone! ☀️

Today I was lucky enough to attend Hazels first ever Tellington TTouch educational hosted by Arlene at Henry & Co.

Absolutely fascinating and definitely something I would love to learn more about, and potentially take further.

Having an anxious (and sometimes) groom aggressive dog of my own, I’m always trying to find that one thing that is going to turn the groom experience around for him.

Listening to the wonderful Hazel today, I would love to explore this with Buddy, in the hope that after 8yrs, he may eventually relax and enjoy his groom time with me.

Tellington TTouch is not just for groomers, or dogs, and can be implemented on almost any animal by owners, or any professional working with animals.

Hazel is a groomer herself, and now a fully qualified Tellington TTouch Practitioner, working one on one with owners and their dogs, to help them cope and relax within the groom environment and beyond.

☀️☀️ Morning Furiends! Now that we seem to be having a bit of better weather 🙏🏻 can I remind all clients of a little house keeping regarding your salon visits, to keep us all happy & safe please.☀️☀️

Unfortunately, I do not have a waiting area in salon, and would politely ask you to arrive as near to your booked groom time as possible. I am unable to look after your dog 15mins early (unless notified/agreed in advance) as this is still the groom time of the client before you.

I have many client dogs (including one of my own) that are nervous in the groom environment. They come to Furiends as I provide 1-2-1 grooming, with no other dogs in salon. Please be respectful of their needs too.

I have installed a Ring doorbell at my garden gate, and I ask that you please alert me to your arrival via that, and do not enter the garden until invited to do so.

It may be the case my own dogs are enjoying the sunshine in their own own garden….or simply that I’m finishing off your dogs groom, which is likely to be a lot harder after their excitement at seeing you again.

Equally so, please collect your dog within the agreed time, as this also unfairly impacts the client after you.

And lastly, ALL grooms MUST be paid for by close of business on the day your dog has been groomed. If this will be an issue for you, please notify me in advance of your dog being groomed.

Thank you all in advance,

Vanda, Buddy & Jovie 🐾🐾

I had a very special visitor this week at Furiends, well 2 actually!!

Daisy, and her wee sis Lola, came in for a wee bath and blow dry.

Lola was our wee Annie’s sister and litter mate!!

Annie had so many health issues to deal with, we only had her in our lives for such a short time, but it was SO good meeting Lola and seeing her so well!!

What a pair of stunners❣️
