From all of us at Broad Lane, we want to say a massive thank you and goodbye to . She has been an integral part of the Broad Lane family for 23 years and we have loved every minute of working with her. Kerry has been moving into the academic field for the last few years and sadly, on Saturday, we had to say our final goodbyes to her. We're sure many of you have been helped by Kerry over the years and we know she will continue to do great work helping all the future vets at Nottingham Uni. Good luck and thank you Kerry. We will miss you 💚💚

This sweetheart is called Alvin and he is a lovely example of a healthy Frenchie. We can see he has open nostrils, lovely bright eyes and and very cute expression! 💚 French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic (short nosed) breed and can really struggle with their breathing and eyes, among any other things. Their popularity has led to a lot of poor breeding and subsequently very unwell dogs. It was lovely to see Alvin the other day and see that he didn't have these issues. It is so more to be very careful when getting any new pet that you properly assess them and not just become blinded by their cuteness. If in doubt, please always ask us for advice which we will be happy to give 🐾

Beautiful Barley (.and.me_ ) had been very worried about her first vaccination injection but she has been coming into the practice for socialisation visits ever since. These visits have clearly paid off because she was an ANGEL in consult on Thursday 😇🐾 Lickimats galore and she didn’t even feel the injection this time 💚🐾 Barley is training to become an assistant dog and we are so proud to help to keep her healthy on her wonderful journey. Well done Barley!

My name is Sim, I am around 12 weeks old and I am a female black kitten. A lovely member of the public brought me to Broad Lane Vets after finding me abandoned on the streets and I have been given the all clear to find my forever home!

Things about me:
😺I am very playful and love toys
😺I LOVE being fussed and enjoy being held and cuddled
😺I am a confidently and curious kitten
😺The nurses say I work overtime in the biscuit factory - my paws were made for this
😺Unsure if I can live with other cats/dogs but the nurses are happy to discuss this with you.

Fern was given "Dog of the day" award when she was in recently! She was a very good girl who was nervous at the start of the day but then was a very confident girl by the end of it (even if that did mean she liked to "chat"!!!!!) 💚🐾💚

Maple was quite worried with us when she came in for her operation but after her spay, she really settled down and just wanted cuddles and belly rubs...... no better way to recover! What a lovely, brave girl 😊

Penny has had a problem with her eye for the last while and was in our Radford Road site to see vet Maria the other day. Thankfully she is doing well and is Maria loved the cuddles 💚🐾

Eye ulcers can happen in any animal but are more common in Brachycephalic (short nosed) breeds. This is because their protruding eyes are drier and therefore more prone to injury among other issues. It is really important to have any eye issue checked by a vet asap top assess the severity and decide a treatment plan.

We have had a very young (approx. 10 weeks old) black female cat brought down to the Radford Road Surgery. She was found down an alley way near Sandy Lane, Radford. She has been transported to our Broad Lane Branch.

We have had an adult black and white male cat brought down to the Broad Lane Surgery. He was found injured on the A452 between Balsall Common and Meriden. He is not neutered and unfortunately not microchipped. He is currently receiving urgent veterinary treatment.

Boe was looking pretty in her comfy collar last week when she was in for a wound check. Not only is this comfy collar stylish 🤣 but it is also really practical to prevent any self trauma/ licking of wounds which would otherwise delay or slow wound healing 🐾

Bruno is normally a worrier who runs straight back into his carrier whenever his exam is finished but he was very happy to stay out and relax at the last visit. Kat had implanted his microchip but all was quickly forgiven with a bowl of chicken!

Did you know that all cats in the UK must now be microchipped. Not only is it a legal requirement of owning a cat (and a dog) but it is a very sensible safety step. Cats are notorious for wandering and for getting themselves lost but when they are microchipped it is a very simple to get them reunited with their family. Collars fall off very easily so without a microchip it can be very difficult to get a furry friend back home 🐾

Can't believe is almost a wrap! We've loved every moment of sharing and learning with everyone. 🐰

But hold up, we're not done yet! Their final topic is all about companionship— Did you know that in the wild rabbits like to live in groups that are often referred to as a colony or a fluffle!
Pet rabbits should always have companionship in the form of a bonded partner or suitable small group. Bonding two rabbits can be a delicate matter so always ensure you ask for advice from your local rabbit rescue or from your vet! The most important thing is that they are all neutered (even sibling rabbits will mate!), it also can help to decrease some negative behaviours – a neutered bunny is much easier to litter train!
Having a bonded friend is the most valuable enrichment for your bunny, they will often cuddle up to keep warm in the winter and will also provide each other a playmate and grooming aid! Ensure your two bunnies (or group) have enough space to ensure they can choose to have time apart if necessary, this will make them less likely to ‘argue’!

Happy Day Four of Rabbit Awareness Week 2024! 🐰

Today, wey’re diving into how you can create a thriving environment for your fluffy friends!
Pet rabbits can live both indoors and outside! You can make either suitable for your bunny if you meet the right requirements for them to be healthy and have an enriching environment!
The minimum space requirement for two bonded rabbits is 3m x 2m x 1m high. This applies to rabbits who live outdoors and indoors! The more space the better for rabbits, to keep rabbits happy it is best to emulate as much of their natural environment as possible e.g. opportunity for foraging or access to tunnels!

Yesterday we had a lunch party to celebrate the wonderful Lisa Madden who has worked at Broad Lane Vets for a fantastic 40 years! 🎊💚 Many of you will know Lisa - she started as a student nurse with Roy Hands, then as her role diversified she multitasked as nurse, receptionist, and clinical coach all at the same time, right through until now where she is Practice Manager of what has become a much larger team. It was lovely to host Roy, Roger and Hazel Hands and Richard and Marianne Webb as well as current staff members to celebrate with us, sharing fond memories over food and acknowledging the achievements Lisa has made over the years. Easter Goodies And Their Dangers

If you have just brought a puppy into your family Broad Lane Vets and Sound Hounds Puppy School have put together a series of short videos to help you with the basics. You would usually pick these up during visits to the practice, our puppy parties and attending puppy training classes. If you need more advice, although we cannot see you face to face, we will do our best to help you by telephone. Today is day 3 and we learn recall, under the direction of Nicky, from Sound Hounds.
