Ouch - luckily this stone was caught early by Rich the Foot Trimmer as it could have easily caused bruising, infection or an ulcer 🐄
Trimming lame cows is obviously very important but pre-dry off trims and 100d trims are vital in the prevention of cattle lameness alongside environmental control!
Focus for cow tracks and passageways:
❌ Blind ends in passages
❌ Broken concrete with muck pooling
❌ Stones and concrete chips
❌ Increased white line disease
❌ Cows slipping, stopping or mucking at certain points in the passage or track
✅ Wide passages - 2 cows and some spare
✅ Gentle slope for drainage
✅ Good traction but not too abrasive
✅ Grooved concrete or rubber matting in high flow areas or feed face
If the cows flow well along passages or tracks it means it’s ticking their boxes 🐮
