Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Calf Workshop yesterday ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿผ We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We had three fantastic workshops and stations covering key topics for successful calf rearing and heard from farmer Paul how he has converted his farm from suckler and fat sheds to suit the new calf rearing enterprise

Everyoneโ€™s participation made it a really valuable day and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!๐Ÿ„ Thanks to Aureum Catering and Zoetis Beef for a great lunch ๐Ÿ‘Œ

14/11/2023

Bluetongue has been confirmed in a single animal near Canterbury in Kent and due to this a 10km control zone has been put in place to minimise spread whilst further surveillance is carried out.

Bluetongue is spread by the Culicodes midges which can be spread / blown up to 200km. With the recent reports of Bluetongue in Belgium and Netherlands itโ€™s likely that this has been spread across the channel. Vigilance remains the priority to keep spread under control.

What should you look for?
ยท Sheep tend to show more signs than cattle
ยท Ulcers and swelling in the mouth
ยท Nasal and mouth discharge
ยท Swelling of the coronary band in sheep
ยท Swollen teats in cattle
ยท Red skin and eyes in cattle
ยท Depressed

If you have any concerns, please contact your vet as soon as possible so we can hopefully rule Bluetongue out or carry out the appropriate sampling and assessments.

Please remember, Bluetongue does not affect people or food safety.

๐ŸŒ

Did you know the su***de rate in vets is four times the national average?
Unfortunately 65% of veterinary professionals have experienced conflict between their wellbeing and professional roles which farmers are no stranger to either
Thatโ€™s why days like this are so important. To raise awareness and make discussion taboo no more ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ
We are all when it comes to mental health ๐Ÿ’ช
