Based in Launceston, Cornwall, T R Doidge Hay & Straw was established in July 1991. Owner Terry Doidge (also know as "Shortlegs") has built up a long standing reputation for producing and supplying high quality hay and straw, along with a high level of customer service. We can supply hay, straw, haylage, shavings and chopped r**e straw - with all sizes of hay & straw bales available. Large and sma

ll deliveries are offered using our wide range of transport options from our small 6.2 tonne lorry up to 44-tonne drawbar combinations. Alternatively customers can collect, by appointment, from our yard in Tregaller, south of Launceston. T R Doidge delivers hay and straw across the south and south west of England, with regular customers from Land's End to London, and Essex to the Channel Islands. We have a very strong relationship with our suppliers too, many of whom have been working with us for over 25 years. Our wheat, barley and oat straw comes from farms across Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Essex. The flexibiility of our fleet of vehicles means that we are able to offer general haulage options to customers, including agricultural machinery and pallets. The dates are in the diary for this years Launceston Horse Trials, running over two weekends on the 25th/26th June, and 27th/28th August.
We were delighted to have so many competitors last year, proving once again how popular the event has become with equestrians from all over the UK coming to compete.

The horse trials would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, and we are hugely grateful to those businesses and individuals who sponsor us every year.

All signage and banners remain in place throughout the entire season, not only for the weekends of the trials themselves, and we help to promote businesses via our commentary teams and also on social media.

With the sun out again for this week, we’re back on hay harvesting. Andy’s being kept busy back at base turning our hay fields whilst Terry’s collecting quality small bales from a supplier he’s had the pleasure of dealing with for over 30 years! Super hay, as always, produced by Peter Gillard and family.

Yep, he’s still at it! Under 90 seconds per bale to wrap AND stack!! 🤩

Andy’s in the rhythm using the McHale 991 LBER stationary wrapper with remote control. 👍😎☀️ The round bales are brought in from the fields on lorries and trailers and then placed onto the wrapper. These don’t touch the ground again until they’ve been wrapped. The use of edge to edge netting, plus stacking the bales on their flat side, means the bales keep their shape and can be more easily rolled around for deliveries 🚚💨

The John Deere 3040 is busy with the New Holland BC5070 on small bales today. The sledge at the back gathers up the bales into packs of eight ready for loading. 😎☀️🚜💨

The old John Deere 578 baler makes a lovely 4ft round hay bale for our customers. It has to be reversed before releasing a bale and the bales always need to be carefully placed to not roll away… especially in a steep field (which this one is down to the left of this video) 🙈🚜💨

One man and his mower yesterday. 🚜💨 Dark skies over the moors, but we’re expecting ☀️☀️☀️. There’ll be 125 acres of meadow grass on the ground by Tuesday evening… gotta geddon, soon be straw harvest! 🚚💨

This round bale hay is going to be wrapped but it’s much quicker to load it in the field unwrapped. When it’s back at the yard the bales will be off loaded from the lorry straight onto the bale wrapper and then be stacked ready for use in a few weeks time.

Terry and Andy were grass cutting for hay on 26th & 27th May 2020 but they definitely won’t be doing this today in 2021. ☹️ Still waiting for the grass to recover after this very dry, frosty April 🥶☀️🥶☀️🥶☀️🥶 and very soggy, cold May ☔️🥶☔️🥶☔️🥶☔️🥶☀️🥶. Night time temperatures are increasing at last into double figures which will help a lot along with the warmer dry days forecast now. In the meantime we still have some hay and straw available, along with plenty of shavings and chopped rape straw bedding.
