Dean Mayes
The Lounge

Born and raised in Letchworth, Dean Mayes has been working in the hairdressing industry for 13 years. Starting out at the tender age of 15, Dean studied hairdressing at North Herts College before moving to London and completing around 15 courses including cutting, colouring, managerial, creative and business. Starting his career in women’s hairdressing, Dean opened his own gentleman’s barbers in Eastcheap when he was 26. It was a hit, and this April the Lounge will be celebrating its 3rd anniversary, as well as launching a coffee bar in store this year.

Dean says that he always wanted to be self-employed and have the freedom to feed his creative passion into his own business. Letchworth was the perfect place to open his barbers because of its size, friendly atmosphere and, having grown up there, Dean wanted to give something back to the town.

“We are lucky to have such a great Garden City, with a BID and Heritage Foundation looking after it.”

The Lounge is family friendly, and modern with a traditional feel. Products available include the brands American Crew and Bladeshunner, two of the top styling and haircare brands in the industry. Also available are beard oil, shaving, styling and finishing products - everything a man could need!

Dean is creative, artistic, with a keen interest in fashion and trends - it was only a matter of time until the self motivation and passion drove him to success. Check out The Lounge on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
