Shall we build one for a winter project??? 🙈

How’s that for a jump 😳
08/08/2023
Nicely worded post.
A good starting point is "still hands". Part two is learning to use your still hands to create the full picture.

“You look like you’re knitting a sweater!”
Pretty sure in riding (especially dressage) that is one harsh insult, intended to invoke the image of someone who is overly busy - hands pulling left, right, left, right. 😣 Certainly not something we want.
But as a rider, you do need to be *creative* with the contact, to communicate something to your horse. When I was learning to ride, I thought “good hands” meant hands that were perfectly still, doing absolutely nothing.
And then when I was a working student for Lilo Fore, one day she yelled at me out of exasperation, “ELIZA!!!! Good hands doesn’t mean you do NOTHING!! You must USE your hands!!!” (In her thick German accent at a very high volume 😳)
I gradually realized that if your hands are perfectly still, they are not moving WITH the horse, and they are not helping him in any way. And the horses need our help! Over time I got braver about learning to try things with my hands. And yep, I did it wrong a lot at the beginning - too strong, too wimpy, holding too much, giving for too long. But as my seat became more and more independent, I could actually “make” something with my contact.
How do you use your hands effectively without looking like you are knitting? Remember, it's all about fostering a harmonious connection with our horses, one stitch at a time.🧶🐴 😜🧣

Ready for winter!!

Springline foals and youngstock is a sideline to the livery that I've been playing with since having what was meant to be a one off foal of my own 3 years ago.
Having got the bug for the joy (despite the expense and sleepless nights) of foaling we welcomed another 3 foals in 2022 and this one in 2023 with another due at the end of June.
Going forward I'm hoping to have either 2 or 3 foals most years with a view to breeding eventing type youngsters.
If you want more pretty foal faces on your fb feed do like and follow this page.

Well done to all our lovely liveries .... all tested and STRANGLES FREE
04/04/2023
Could this be a bag of totally strangles free samples or is that too optimistic 🤔🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
22/02/2023
Unfortunately for the first time in the 17 years of the livery yard running, we are having our turn at handling strangles here.
It seems our symptoms are very much not in line with stereotypical strangles: none have displayed a raised temperature and so far nasal discharge has been relatively mild and steady in onset and none have progressed to abscesses (🤞🤞) which is worth being aware of, especially in winter where early mild symptoms could look like no more than the effects of a bit of dusty hay.
The liveries, vet and yard are working brilliantly together with our biosecurity plan to contain infection within our yard, prevent spreading between individual horses on the yard and to reach the other side, normality, as soon as possible.
