This is just a little reminder to all of our amazing customers that we must see pictures of your setups before we can let any animal go home with you!

This is part of our welfare checks to ensure every animal purchased from us has everything they need to remain happy and healthy throughout their life 😊

Pictures must include…
- The enclosure fully set up (including decor and substrate)
- Temperatures for both the hot and the cold side
- Probe positions inside the enclosure
- How the lighting is positioned inside/on top of the enclosure

If you have any questions about setting up your enclosures don’t hesitate to get in touch 📞

We sell everything in store that you will need to create a set up for any reptile, amphibian or invertebrate along with expert advice😁

❤️FRILLED DRAGON❤️

Everyone’s favourite lizard is back at the front of the shop and he’s had a full enclosure revamp!

Our Frilled Dragon is definitely my favourite animal we have in store, he’s getting super friendly too especially when it comes to feeding time! He’s often spending time sitting on our heads or shoulders like some sort of parrot 😂

Frilled dragons are an arboreal species of lizard native to Northern Australia, they spend the majority of their time hanging out amongst all of the trees and branches 🌿

They are super unique looking lizards resembling a dinosaur with their huge frills which puff out when they feel threatened, their patterns allow them to camouflage really well and when they run they rear up onto their hind legs and are surprisingly super fast

They can reach up to 36” as adults with their tails making up a large proportion of that, due to their large size they do require a large enclosure so they have plenty of space to explore and move around, we recommend a bioactive enclosure with lots of live plants and branches 🌱

This isn't even funny anymore. Tom is heading for divorce at this rate. His next idea to order in 'big, black inverts to freak Lisa out' was these Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches.... I tentatively lifted up the cork bark to check on them just now and my initial thought was 'Ooooh, what species of Isopod have they put in here then!? They're really dark and unusual'...

Only for my face to drop when I realise the buggers have gone and had a load of babies 😭😭😭

No judgement here whatsoever on the owners part, as a complete novice she went into another pet store to buy a leopard gecko and complete set up. Anyone in that situation expects to be sold the correct set up by a professional that will give them everything they need, including all the correct advice. This sadly wasn't the case here and the customer ended up being sold a completely substandard set up and didn't have the correct supplements, or even a humid hide. As you can see, as a result this poor gecko has suffered the consequences.

The owner came in store to us today for help and we removed all the stuck shed (there were multiple layers in areas) to make the gecko more comfortable between now and an advised vet trip... The eyes were completely covered in pus. The gecko was quite skittish as she couldn't see, so I had to apply a firm grip. We gently removed as much pus as possible, but a vet will need to pick it up from here. She may have potentially lost her sight and the eyes due to infection from the built up shed.

We have now advised and sold the customer the correct heating, supplements etc needed to help the gecko back on track, as much as possible given the damage that's already been done.

Just a reminder to everyone out there, sadly, not all places that sell reptiles know what they need and will sell cheap, inadequate set ups. Not necessarily just to pull in a sale, but also due to a lack of knowledge with products and kits.

Caring for your pets

Since I was young, I’ve always loved many different kinds of animals and have had a keen interest in both taking care of and learning about them. Although I have kept and bred many pets personally from childhood, I began a full time career with reptiles and small animals 10 years ago. During this period I have used my knowledge and trained to become specialist within all areas of small animal and reptile care. I began Reptile and Pet Boarding in 2010 and now have the opportunity to share my love of animals with my clients and pet owners, all over the Midlands. In 2012 I began working with one of the main animal charities in the UK, rescuing stray and confiscated reptiles within my local area. This experience of rehabilitating animals, who often come to me in the absolute worst of conditions, has expanded my knowledge of reptiles and chelonians etc even further, by working closely with our experienced local exotics vet. Having to administer medicines and provide optimal conditions in order for animals to recover completely during their aftercare, has therefore enabled me to provide an even deeper level of care for your pet. I am able to offer boarding services for sick and convalescing animals, so if your pet has become ill or had to undergo an unexpected surgery before your travel, I am still able to accommodate them. Animal welfare is at the top of my list of priorities and my aim is to give all animals within my care, the best environment and enrichment's possible. I am more than happy to help educate anyone with questions regarding responsible pet care, to in turn, enable them to provide the best level of care for their pets. I look forward to the chance to meet your much loved pet soon.
