This hot weather is not ideal for our hairy (or not so hairy in some cases) friends.
Here are Bark and Beyond tips for hot dogs!

πŸ• Walk your dogs at cooler times of the day. This is important as dogs are prone to overheating easily, and their paw pads can burn on very hot concrete. Between the hours of 12.00pm and 3.00pm give the walk a miss.

πŸ• Keep your dog Hydrated. You should give your dog plenty of opportunities to drink cool, fresh water. Place multiple bowls in different spots around the house and in the garden.

πŸ• Never leave your dog alone for long periods in a very hot car. If you must travel with your dog, be sure to give them water, plenty of cool air from the windows or aircon, and cover them with a cool wet towel. Be sure to stop frequently and let them get some air.

πŸ• Make ice treats! Frozen fruit and veg and dog friendly ice lollys are a great way to keep dogs cool. Marshfield Ice cream do a great doggy icecream! Scoffs for dogs is great on a hot day.

πŸ• To keep them cool, drench a towel in tepid water and drape it over or near your dog. Leave it on for short periods of time and make sure to remove it once the towel has dried otherwise they can overheat.

πŸ• Find some water that is safe to play in. A paddling pool, sprinkler or even a large plastic storage tub make a great watery treat in the garden.
Remember - Stay safe and have fun in the sun with your furry friends!

Why do dogs eat grass?? πŸ•πŸ•πŸ•

You may have observed your dog eating grass every now and again, this is normally nothing to worry about and dogs eat grass for many reasons -

β€’ Because they like it! Good weather between April and August creates sweet tasty grasses.
β€’ They need fibre, some dogs naturally supplement their own diet with fibre rich, nutritional grasses.
β€’ It helps clear their gut of parasites.
Dogs are natural omnivores, so eating both plants and meat is fairly normal for most dogs.

πŸ• However if your dog is eating more grass than usual, pay special attention to them, they may be sick, or bored and eating grass could be harmful. Also never let your dog eat grass that could have been sprayed by pesticides or fertiliser, or that is frequently covered in slugs or snails, as this can be toxic and infect dogs with lungworm.

πŸ• But generally, a healthy, fully wormed dog eating a little grass every now and again is nothing to worry about!
