Purseweb is 20%. She was one of five kittens looking for their new home. Sadly because of her coat colour she will find it 20% harder to find a new home. All her siblings were 'desirable' colours and have found their new homes and Purseweb is left waiting. We want to beat the statistic that black and black&white cats take three times longer to rehome. If you think you could be Purseweb (or any of our other black cats) forever home please apply today!
Bighorn during his initial health check.
Flea’s can be really worrying for owners. All cats can get fleas so it’s important you treat for fleas regularly. We recommend only buying your flea treatments from your vet as the ingredients are more effective than the ones ‘off the shelf’ and your vet can advise on what is safe for your cat. The video of Bighorn is an example of what can happen if you do not flea your cats regularly with good quality products. He came into our care suffering from a bad flea allergy. We have treated this now and he is looking forward to finding his new home; although he may have to wait a while for all his fur to grow back!
You tend to find more fleas in the summer when its warm but their eggs can live in your home year round. Its important, if you find fleas on your cat, to treat your home as well as them and any other pets in your home. There are no age limits for fleas so make sure to treat kittens and older cats with appropriate treatments from your vet. Make sure to NEVER use a dog flea treatment on your cat as they contain ingredients that are harmful to cats.
Many cats do not like receiving flea treatment. You can try to create positive associations with flea treatments and there are some tips on training your cats to be more tolerant of the procedure on this web page: https://www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/health/fleas. You can also often make an appointment with your vet nurse and they can provide help and advice.

At Cats Protection, we never know who will come through our door next.
Some cats are strays, others abandoned, too often we see kittens left to fend for themselves.
Every one of these stories will tug at our hearts, And all of these cats will need urgent help and care in some way.
Your donation today means we can help the next cat through our doors.
Please donate if you can https://www.cats.org.uk/boots-appeal/sthelens Thank you.
Meet Clymeme, he's finding the centre really tough. He was straying in Liverpool and was friendly with the people feeding him. He would love a really hands off home with lots of safe outdoor space for him to roam. He could be suited to a supported barn space but we're not sure how good a hunter he is so he will most likely still need feeding!
We would love to get Clymeme into his new home ASAP as he's really stressed in the centre. If you have any questions please give the centre a bell and we can tell you more about him and his needs. Even if he's not the right fit for you please like and share his post so it reaches as many people as possible 😻
Grooming your cat
Tornjack wants to tell you why might you need to groom your cat! 😻
Long haired cats often need grooming to prevent tangling and matts, but you can also groom short haired cats and elderly cats who struggle to groom as much 🐈. Grooming also removes dust, dead skin and loose hairs, promoting the healthy oils your cat’s coat needs and can improve circulation❣️🧬
The best part is that regular grooming allows you to spend quality time with your cat, as well as providing the opportunity to monitor their health 🫶. Make sure you're creating a very postive experience when grooming! Tornjack says to try treats 😹
A lot of cats enjoy being groomed! When first introducing grooming to your cat, do a little bit at a time and build up their confidence. Grooming should be carried out with as little restraint as possible.
If you’re thinking about brushing your cat think about the brush, different cat coats may need different brushes like a comb or a soft brush. You can check out more information on the cats protections website we’ve linked below 😸

This is Hippopotamus. She was here in our centre for a few months and was not coping at all. She wouldn't let anyone touch her.
Luckily we found a fosterer for her to go and stay with to give her a more home like experience.
This video shows what Hippo is like now. She still is nervous but most definitely improving.
She is now looking for her forever home where she can settle in her own time. If you are interested in adopting Hippo please contact the North Wirral Cats Protection branch on 0345 260 1376
She needs a chance 😽😽
