Hilda took herself off for a walk last night after three days of keeping us worried and the vets very busy! 🐽 It's such a relief to see her on the mend, and while her appetite still isn't 100%, she is devouring porridge like Goldilocks (not too hot, not too cold, and by the gallon 😂)

We all love Hilda so much, so a big thank you to our vets for all their efforts and putting up with me fussing

If you are local to the Leek area and love spending time with animals please get in touch 💚

I'm looking for some extra pairs of hands to help with feeding times and clean up throughout the week, particularly in the mornings. If you are handy with a drill, that would be an optional bonus 😁

Although it's super sunny right now, you need to be as happy to come and muck out on a grim winter's morning as you are to sit and cuddle sheep on a summer's day ☀️

Please get in touch if:

* you're 18 or older
* have your own reliable transport
* Are comfortable with larger animals as well as birds
* have enough patience to deal with a scatterbrained sanctuary owner 😅
* you're able to comfortably lift and carry (eg bags of feed, mucking out duties)

Two big thank yous are in order - we have a sturdy new goat shelter so kindly donated by neighbours (the ducks especially enjoyed the assembly process, the goats themselves are still unsure of their upgrade 🤣)

And also a huge thanks to Stoke-On-Trent Animal Rights (S.T.A.R) for their support today and for putting on the Newcastle-under-Lyme vegan fair which supports so many good causes locally. A great day was had by all 💚

Sometimes you just need a friend to lean on 🐑
✨Plea for support ✨💛

It's been a busy time here with the hot weather exacerbating some health issues, keeping me busy cooling everyone down, and with the added stress of feed prices skyrocketing and vet bills I am doing what I hate doing and asking for a little help!

The heatwave has brought on respiratory problems for a few of our older sheep - we know Barry came to us with some scarring on his lungs after the hot weather caused him issues last year, and now Pongo, Big Chris and Marigold are on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Between medications and shearing costs, and ordering a new batch of wormer plus blowfly-control, some support towards the sheep costs would be so appreciated 🐑🐑

I will also soon be saying bye to Mabel here and her gang, to their wonderful new forever home which is both exciting and a little heartbreaking 💚 This comes with the added cost of replacing the tyres on our stock trailer to transport them to their new home, proving no good deed goes unpunished 😅 But it is worth it knowing they are going somewhere extra special.

Thanks to everyone who has helped keep our beautiful residents fed and happy of late and who has donated (money, feed, sheds, your time!) You know who you are ✨ I 100% know everyone is rightfully tightening their belts, but anyone who does have a little spare or is able to commit to just £2 a month - it all really does make a difference to us.

An update for everyone who's been worried - Mabel is still a little low but we agree with the vet she just needs some time now to start feeling herself. A bad tummy can really knock the wind out of your sails! 💚
Sadly no cuddles with her this morning as she's not impressed with my attentions giving her meds yesterday! I did sneak in a few cuddles with the rest of the gang who are on top form 🐑❄️

It's another snow day here at LAS and we had a long night worrying about Mabel who is still clearly not feeling 100%

She seems happy to have a wander around with the gang which is a relief, and we are waiting on another callback from the vet to make sure she's as comfortable as possible this evening 🙏💚

While Ian and all our other 4-legged friends enjoyed their breakfast, we didn't know where to start with the chicken enclosures this week 🥶🥶

All the pens need some TLC after the weight of the snow on the mandatory netting, as usual we're hoping to cobble everything together ourselves and crack on but if you can spare a few pounds to help us re-net some of these areas we'd be hugely grateful!

And as usual anything that doesn't go towards the repairs, goes straight to the animals' tummies or med bills 💚
