Thank you Tara for your kind words and trusting us from our first ever batch. Tara is a dog behaviourist and trainer based in Bangalore and runs her own working dog club @anarchyk9s , which also happens to be a sister club of Working Dog Club of Pune. She is one of the few who is doing some amazing work out there in Bangalore. We are so proud to have been able to witness her immense growth into training working dogs so closely and would like to say that she is one of the most hard working people out there who loves to put out better work than yesterday, everyday.

The price of decoying. @niyati.10 is a very important member of the Working dog club of Pune. She is both a promising handler and a very hardworking decoy. A couple of days back she was helping Rōnin learn some portion of his protection training for which she had to catch Rōnin on the tricep. Rōnin has gained some weight since he’s come back from trial and the cold mornings meant he was going to be a bit eager and fast. The collision looked bad and she went to ground and started screaming in pain. We later discovered she has a grade three tear in her ACl and medial miniscus. The most amazing part was that as she was laying there in pain she enquired about the dog and if this would have an adverse impact on his training. That’s a true decoys commitment to the dog. Niyati will be going into surgery early Jan and then will go into rehab the next few months. This post is an appreciation post to show her that she is important to all of us at the Working Dog club of Pune and we will all see to it that once she is back we will do everything in our power to help her certify as a decoy. I had announced in a previous post that I want to post a bit on how I have to teach my dog pet dog things too in order to have an easier life with him. Rōnin and I have gone to a place where he knows he gets to play a lot so it’s an exciting place for him but I’ve taught him that the fun activity cannot start till he lets me put the leash on and only then can we get out of the car. I typically travel with Rōnin in a crate in my car because that way he doesn’t get hair all over my seat covers and I don’t like him interacting with beggars etc on the signal through the car window. But that’s a personal choice. This will work at the car door without the crate as well. Infact you can use it for a lot of other situations as well. In this case I do not offer a treat or anything as such. He gets the desired fun activity as a reward for showing patience. We are training new decoys.
This is @niyati.10 who has a big future ahead of her in decoying. She’s catching Ragnar handled by @bhosalenilesh2281.
The transition from the catch to the drive was a bit off because she was not initially thinking of driving the dog and did so only after she got an instruction from the training director.
All n all she’s looking like she’s on her way.

As the Working Dog Club of Pune progresses forward in it’s journey, we want to remind ourselves of where we began from.
In the honour of the dog that introduced many in the country to what an amazing working dog is capable of, our annual trials will henceforth be renamed to honour his legacy.
Working Dog Club of Pune, presents to you, Dastan Memorial PSA Trials.
To be held on the 3rd and 4th of June, 2023 in Pune, these trials will be the first of it’s kind for more reasons than one.
We look forward to hosting Samantha Taylor as our judge and Adrian Rae as our senior decoy.

Working Dog Club of Pune presents Decoy Development Workshop by Adrian Rae.
Adrian, a Senior PSA decoy has been working dogs since teenage. A multiple times National Select decoy, Adrian is one of the best out there.
The two day workshop is directed towards both new and experienced decoys.
Day 1:
Rag work through to suit work. Young dog development and targeting, including:
-Goals for prey development,
-Goals for defense development,
-Equipment progression.
Day 2:
Skills and suit mechanics, including:
-Problem solving skills (out, redirect, call off, etc.),
-Suit technique (catching, transitions, drives and freeze up.)
The workshop offers limited working and audit spots.

Rōnin getting better at his Call Off. Rōnin isn’t very keen on coming off a decoy to take a reward from me. So now we give another decoy in place but he has to come to heel before considering the way the call off scenario is set up in the 2s. So now we can setup a number of decoys and be a bit varied on who we reward on.
