Hello everyone and welcome to my journey! My name is Michelle, I am 53 and married to an amazing man called Rob. I have four amazing adult kids, their partners, my “inherited” children and grandchildren from my ex husband and his wonderful new wife, and I am a grandmother to 8 (soon to be 11) beautiful grand babies. We have a big (and ever growing), beautiful, crazy, blended and loving family which are the heart of our life and this farm.
South African by birth and now Kiwi by choice. I was raised in South Africa and my childhood was a mixed bag of lifestyles both Suburban and Rural. I married young and had my children young before moving to NZ 19 years ago. I have loved this land and all its beauty as it has given us so much to be grateful for. I divorced and remarried an amazing kiwi bloke, 8 years younger than me but also my perfect guy! We have been together for 15 very happy years.
A year ago we decided to give up our suburban lifestyle and moved to the countryside in Ararimu, South of Auckland. Our lifestyle block, which we named Fantails Flight, includes 1.5 hectares of land and is just gorgeous. Our farm has given so much already and we are only just at the starting line! My parents live with us along with 9 sheep, 25 chickens (and seven new chicks) and our dog called Max. I love to garden and grow my own food, I love to cook and bake and the highlights of my life are my grandchildren who love this place as much as we do.
So thats us in a nutshell... This blog is a my personal journey. It is about the changes that taking little steps has made for me, my family and hopefully the planet. Moving into this lifestyle has opened our eyes to so much. There is so much that needs to be done in order to bring about the change so that our future generations can survive and enjoy everything that our beautiful planet has to offer. Until we make necessary changes, we will be doing everything but that. Will our legacy will be failure? Failure to teach, failure to share, failure to enjoy the basic, every day, God given rights to a naturally green and healthy life. This is the time. Our animals are going extinct, our planet is crying and dying with each plastic bag and pesticide we throw onto it. It has to change!
