Dear clients and members of the public,

I will be out of office from 9 -21 July 2024 over looking nice arid desert scenery in the land of hakuna matata. One thing I’m not doing, however, is reading or responding to emails and calls. If you need immediate assistance or topping up of medications, please look for my senior Vet - Dr Joel @ 62669566. He is nice and gentle but I have told him not to be over accommodating while I’m away. Thank you all for your continued support and I really appreciate every one of you. Have a wonderful day.

Dear clients and the general public,

As we all know, the temperature over the last few weeks have been unbearably hot.

I have been dealing with a rise in heat stress cases both in cats and dogs recently.

I would like everyone to take the following precautions to prevent heat-stress and heatstroke.

Prevention:
1. Avoid walking your pet between 8am to 5pm.
2. Turn on the air conditioning between 10am to 3pm to help cool your pet down (if possible)
3. Freeze a big block of ice and put in a bigger drinking bowl to allow them access to cool water
4. Shave your pet (cats included) down to bare skin to allow for cooling (just for this season)
5. Purchase a bottle of Ethylchloride spray and spray onto your pet if necessary.
a. Spray when they start panting excessively when you bring them out.
b. Areas to spray: behind the ears, armpits, groin and under paw pads (open wounds are ok to get sprayed over)
c. Areas to avoid: eyes and mouth.

I cannot stress enough that prevention is better than getting heatstroke. I urge everyone to be extra cautious during this season. I hope this information has been helpful and to some extent, able to help manage your pet’s comfort levels during this season.

Addendum:
The above is my advice. You are free to follow one or all those steps mentioned and these steps are not exhaustive. Eg you can also soak a large towel
in a container of ice water and lay over your pet to aid cooling. Further to that, any articles relating to not shaving your pet needs to be adopted in the right context. If the article is written by someone based in a cooler climate, I would be careful to adopt any concepts from there. The point is simple - Your pet’s life is in your hands.

In line with the latest MOH regulations, the wearing of face masks will no longer be mandatory when in our clinic.

However, we do seek your cooperation to put on your face masks if you are not feeling well.

Kindly note that face masks are still mandatory when within our clinic's premises.

With effect from 13th February 2024, a fee of $0.50 each will be charged should we be required to provide you with them, and all proceeds from the sale of masks will be placed in our SPCA donation box.
