Paracord or Parachute Cord or 550 cord were used by the US Millitary in WWII in their parachutes (ie to hang the soldier to the parachute). Each strand of the cord is made up of a interwoven nylon casing with 5 or 7 inner nylon cords, together, they can withstand a weight of about 550lbs of weight or 250kg.
