Coming up very soon is the Membership banquet for the Dallas County Chapter of the Ducks Unlimited. As many of you know Duck Hunting has a special place in my heart because the last hunt I did with my father before his accident was a guided duck hunt with some of my now good friends. In his memory, I buy a duck stamp for every customer who brings me a trophy out of my profits.

I am currently searching for people who want to help with a project for the youth of the banquet. My goal is to set up a couple of young hunters with enough good quality gear that they can go out and have success on their own and/ or possibly take a friend that can't afford stuff on their own.

Any donations or item sponsorships would be appreciated by me but more importantly by the kids who are our future of conservation and hunting.

Please like share and follow for updates and feel free to contact me directly at my shop phone (515)993-1183 with any questions or to donate. No amount is to big or small.

Today marks the start of my Duck Stamp Campaign! From this point forward every mount that leaves the shop I will buy the customer a Federal Duck Stamp.

Why is this a big deal? You ask. The Federal Duck Stamp currently cost $25 and of that 98% goes directly to conservation. This means for every mount that leaves my shop I am donating $23 straight to conservation. My goal is to give out at least 50 duck stamps by the end of the deer season 2020.

Keeping Wild Spirits was founded not only to help you tell the story of your hunt but also the idea that we need to do what we can to ensure wildlife is there for future generations.

Thank you Jason Fisher for being a good sport taking a photo with me and to Sam Soholt Soholt Photography https://instagram.com/samsoholt?igshid=gvxi0adu71nc for letting me barrow your duck stamp for customers idea.

Who else is ready? Be sure to say hi and feel free to ask me any questions about taxidermy.

I know season closed for ducks here in Iowa but this is a good reminder for anyone who has a bird in the freezer if they are not put in the freezer correctly they may not turn out as good or may get freezer burnt. This is also how geese and upland birds should be kept. The best way to store your trophy is on the wall. The sooner you bring it in the better for you.

Www.discoveradel.com has featured me in the December 2019 newsletter that was just released. This article features some insight into who I am and what I’m about. Please take a second to read it and learn a little more about me. If you are from the area and want to find other small businesses go to the Discover Adel’s website and check them out. Base® employees gave back to a company program labeled “Warm the Sole” by donating shoes, boots, and socks to school-aged children in need in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn (ADM) school district.

Due to helping with the Veterans Day events at ADM middle school, the shop will be closed tomorrow.

Please take time to thank a veteran for their service. We owe this beautiful country and all the freedoms we have, including the ability to enjoy hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, to the sacrifices that they have selflessly made.

To all of my fellow veterans, I thank you. My shop is always open and I am always willing to make time for a brother in need don’t hesitate to call.

As new forms are showing more brisket and armpit than that buck your grandpa has had in his shop your entire life, it is important for you to not cut your cape too short here’s a good quick reference for how to cape out that next buck to keep your mount options open to some really cool poses.

For anyone out in the stand this weekend I have forwarded the shop phone to my cell phone and will take calls as I can through out the weekend to get your cape and head on ice as quickly as possible. If you have questions about preparing your deer for Taxidermy let my know I’d be more than happy to walk you through the process.

With deer season kicking off it’s time to make room in your freezer! Bring in that fish you’ve frozen to mount before you head to the stand! I’ll get it ready for the wall and out of your way, so you have room for that deer.

For those who do not know not all taxidermist can do waterfowl. To do your duck or goose trophies taxidermist must submit an application to the US Fish and Wildlife Service for a permit. I have dropped mine off at the US Post Office today. I called the Migratory Bird Permit Office before hand and was told there is about a week processing time on the Permit. This means I should have my Permit in hand ready for any Trophy Birds you get during this fast approaching waterfowl season.

Took in my first piece today. Looking forward to doing it. The customer is having it done as a gift for a 50th birthday. Ladies take note! If you’re man is wasting your freezer space with that trophy he is “going to get mounted someday” having it done makes a better gift than a tie or a sweater.
