Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) and Aiken County Animal Shelter (ACAS) are having Clear the Shelter Day, the facility’s biggest adoption event of the year, this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All of the adoptable pets will be sponsored and available for no charge during this event.

The shelter is at full capacity, so it is hoped this special event will result in all of the pets on the adoption floor finding forever homes.

“We’ve had a challenging summer with so many strays being picked up and unclaimed by owners,” said FOTAS President Jennifer Miller. “We hope waiving all adoption fees for one day will motivate people to come rescue these homeless pets who are here through no fault of their own.”

Folks are encouraged to bring a collar and leash if they are adopting a dog or a cat carrier if they are adopting a feline. The shelter’s standard practice of vetting adopters through an application process and random spot checks will be implemented for this event.

This is a change from a previous communication where we said we would be open from 8-11, but we want to give the paving company ample time to complete the job.
