Speaking Fluent Feline
Cats are exotic animals, a unique and specialized pet we have mistakenly grouped together with dogs - as in, “Cats and Dogs” making it seem as if they should have similar methods of training, and behavioral needs - our misunderstanding is at the heart of the cat’s-behavior issues in human houses.
Because (former wolves) dogs have been with Humans for 10’s of thousands of years longer than cats, there is little remaining after humans created dogs from domesticated wolves, creating an entirely new species, changing the animal’s genetics forever.
It is better to think on cats as a wild-minded animal caught in the human-cycle. Any cat is only a single generation removed from being ‘wild’, or sometimes incorrectly referred to as, “feral”.
In fact, kittens not exposed to human physical interactions early and often, have almost no chance of domestication with humans, even if born to so-called ‘domestic’ parents. Fundamentally Cats can not be trained like dogs, only dogs can be trained like dogs. So the methods we have learned to train dogs are widely useless with cats, because cats think entirely differently than any dog.
