As a local shelter many cats and kittens come into our shelter, unwanted or abandoned. The shelter tries their best to find homes or rescues for all the ones in need. We are hoping with the creation of this page that ther

e will be more exposure of the ones available for adoption through Athens Limestone Animal Shelter. This is the current law for the state of Alabama. Shelters are not a boarding facility to keep your dog until you chose to reclaim your dog. You have a 7 day hold, and after that, your dog is free to be euthanized, adopted or rescued. Current "law": § 3-7A-8. Destruction of impounded dogs and cats; when authorized; redemption by owner; sale of impounded animals. All dogs, cats, and ferrets which have been impounded in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, after notice is given to the owner as provided in Section 3-7A-7, may be humanely destroyed and disposed of when not redeemed by the owner within seven days. In case the owner of an impounded animal desires to redeem the animal, he or she may do so on the following condition: He or she shall pay for the immunization of the animal and a penalty equal to the minimum fine established in Section 3-7A-6 if a certificate of current immunization cannot be produced, and for the board of the animal for the period for which it was impounded. The amount paid for the board of the animal shall accrue to the credit of the city or county, depending upon the jurisdiction of the pound in which the animal was confined. At his or her discretion, the impounding officer may provide
for adoption of any animal not redeemed or claimed or otherwise disposed of, to any person desiring the animal, if the person complies with all the provisions of this chapter. CREDIT(S) (Acts 1990, No. 90-530, p. 816, § 8; Act 2009-636, p. 1949, § 1.) This page is run by volunteers. If you need to contact the shelter staff, call 256 771 7889 or email [email protected]

We lost an incredible team member and friend this weekend due to a tragic car accident. Many of you know Deb McMurtrey for her vivacious smile and infectious laugh. She was a servant for the Lord all her days, taking care of all of us and many of you.

Please allow us time to celebrate her amazing life this Wednesday afternoon. If you’d like to join us in paying your respects to her family, her celebration of life ceremony will be at 2pm at Emanuel Baptist Church, this Wednesday, July 3rd.

The clinic and animal shelter will be closing to the public at noon this Wednesday. They will also be closed to celebrate Independence Day.

God bless the McMurtrey Family and all those who loved her.

June is National Adopt a
😻Shelter Cat😻 Month,
and it's the purr-fect time to give a forever home to a cat in need.

Right now, there are over 3 million cats entering shelters each year across the U.S., with many of them looking for a second chance at happiness. Each one has a story, and maybe it’s your turn to be part of the next chapter in a deserving cat’s life.

Adopting from a shelter isn’t just about saving a life; it’s about enriching your own. Shelter cats, often overlooked and undervalued, bring laughter, comfort, and a whole lot of purring into your life. They’re experts at flipping a rough day on its head with just a meow and a nuzzle.

So, why not drop by your local shelter? You might be surprised at how many furry faces are ready to meet you. Whether you're after a laid-back lap cat or an energetic sidekick, there’s a perfect match just waiting. Make this June the month you make a big difference—for you and for one of the thousands of cats waiting for a home just like yours. Have you thought about how adopting a shelter cat could change your life and theirs?
What's holding you back from taking that step?

We understand that the Housing market is very chaotic currently. This makes it very hard for pet owners to find appropriate housing.
Hopefully this guide will help navigate and help in finding a home that owners can afford and bring their pets.

Poor Larry. He's has had it pretty rough for the past six months. His owners moved away and abandoned him. A kind neighbor has been feeding him and noticed he had injured his front paw. The neighbor called us for help and we couldn't say no!
Welcome to the Rescue Fuzzy Larry! We promise to never abandoned you. We will get your paw treated and get you vetted and ready to find a forever home. Most importantly, we will love you and make you feel safe and secure.
Larry was an unexpected blessing and we need your help to finance his vetting.
