Bailey is a 13 year old female cat who has been living at The Cat Doctor since October and she has been a lot of fun to have around, but now we are hoping our clients can help her find a great home! Unfortunately, she dislikes other cats so she needs to be in an only cat household, but almost everyone who sees her here at the office already has other cats. We are hoping that our wonderful clients will pass her information along to any friends who are cat-curious or are between pets right now!

Bailey is healthy, very active and playful right now, but when she came to us she had diabetes and a sensitive GI tract, so she is on a strict canned food-only diet and she needs to stay on that to remain healthy. She claims to be hungry all the time, so she needs an owner who has the willpower to resist her begging between meal times, and who is agile enough to avoid tripping when she is underfoot 😄 We don't know how she would be with a calm dog, but she is probably best for a household without other pets and without small children since she can be a little nippy when she gets overstimulated.

Bailey has a ton of personality and loves to follow us around the office, leaping on and off the counters and furniture. Please ask anyone you know who would be interested to call the Bedford office or contact Dr. Anne at [email protected]. Thanks for your help!

This is Karla, a beautiful girl who was living outside in Lowell for several years but is ready to be an indoor pet. She is probably around 4 years old and is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She is extremely friendly and outgoing but likes to be in charge of her surroundings, so she would probably do best in a home without other cats or small children. If you are interested in finding out more about Karla, email Dr. Anne at [email protected] and she can put you in touch with Karla's foster mom.

You can vote for the cover cat for next year's Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society calender, while helping to raise money for this great organization. You can vote for whichever cat you prefer, but Dr. Anne would appreciate your vote for her late, great cat Bombay, who is obviously the most beautiful cat in the contest 🐱

These lovely lilies are on sale for Easter and other spring celebrations but they are extremely toxic for cats. Please don't have them in your house or give them to friends and family if you or they have cats! If your cat chews any part of a lily or grooms pollen off their fur, seek emergency care immediately. (Calla and Peace Lilies are not true lilies. They can cause vomiting but are much less toxic and are a better choice for spring plant gifts.)

April 22nd is not only Earth Day, it's also National Take Back Day for medications. Disposing of expired, unneeded or extra medications at an approved site reduces the chances of drug abuse, accidental dosing of the wrong medications, and environmental contamination. You can use this site to find a collection site near you:

Both offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday February 25th, due to snowstorm. Snuggle with your cats and stay safe! We will reopen on Monday morning at 8 AM.

Without MRFRS's ongoing work to keep the cat population in check through our Catmobile and spay/neuter clinics, there would be too many cats without homes, trying to survive outside in the cold, facing danger and disease - or even worse, being euthanized.

By being a CATalyst and making a donation today, you are making it possible for MRFRS to continue our important spay/neuter work in 2022. Donate now at www.mrfrs.org/raisingmypaw.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but the Bedford office will be closed tomorrow (Friday, 1/7) due to a staffing shortage. If you have an urgent question, you can call the Nashua office. Otherwise, we should be back on Monday!

This story is out of Illinois, but it's still very important. Many people are unaware that rabies is a risk to people and it is uniformly FATAL to unvaccinated or untreated individuals. Vaccinating your pets is the best way to prevent risk to humans (and to your pets), but any unusual encounter with a wild animal needs to be taken seriously. If your cat has contact with a rabies vector (common ones are bat, fox, raccoon, coyote, beaver, or woodchuck) please call us immediately. If it happens to you, contact your physician or your local Department of Public Health right away. https://www.dph.illinois.gov/news/illinois-department-public-health-reporting-first-human-case-rabies-illinois-1954

Be aware of bats that could be in your home SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is reporting the first human case of rabies in Illinois since 1954.
