Nigerian dwarf milk is great for making cheese because of the high butterfat, which averages 6.5% but can peak at over 10% in the winter months.

DOUBLE TROUBLE is the latest Timely Topic from the American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control (ACSRPC; wormx.info). It's a short, 2-page fact sheet about the two parasites that usually cause the most problems on small ruminant farms: barber pole worm and coccidia. It is being translated into Spanish.

Seeds sense the sun return. Germination rapid with most species. Here's a photo of one of the more spectacular ones--Bidens pilosa--and a bit more info about the plant

Bidens pilosa

Family: Aster (Asteraceae)

Annual, requiring 100 days to complete fruition

(Xian-feng-cao, Blackjack, Cobbler's Pegs, Hairy Beggarsticks, Sticky Beaks, Farmer's Friend) Annual w**d, self-fertile, flowering rayless yellow disc, to a height of 5 feet, native to South America and introduced into warmer regions worldwide. Note should be made that contact with the fresh plant can cause photosensitivity. Wash with soap and water immediately after contact. However the plant is a good edible herb, being used as a potherb especially in Africa, and is also used in herbal medicine and veterinary medicine. Traditional uses of roots, leaves and seeds: For treating stomach woes in humans and for treating animal colic; antidysenteric; pain-relieving anodyne; antimicrobial; antimalarial; Lyme; hepatoprotective; hypotensive. Fast-growing plant prefers a sunny position in disturbed soil and may be propagated much as one would grow Mustard or Kale, in the field or garden bed. Germination of the needle-like achenes (seeds) is rapid. Surface-sow and press in hard, keep warm, moist and in the light. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart.

Here's the latest factsheet in the "OTHER WORMS" series by the American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control (ACSRPC; wormx.info). Each factsheet is written and reviewed by members of the consortium. This one's on tapeworms (Moniezia expansa), the worm that looks worse than it is. The only factsheet strictly about tapeworms (that I'm aware of).
