The days are definitely getting shorter, so it’s time start saying goodbye to some of our favorite summer varieties: charleston grey watermelon, ground cherry, purple tomatillos, green zebra tomatoes, sun gold tomatoes, Malabar spinach, and more grew in spaces big and small over the past few months! We will miss warm weather and full weeks of camp, but are excited for our first Saturday of Play on October 6. Register now and help us welcome Fall! @ Charlotte, North Carolina

It might have taken all summer, but we are finally getting to try some Mexican Sour Gherkins! They taste like tiny little green watermelons combined with lemon, and the kids in the Lab School Make and Grow Club love them! We will definitely be seeding these and growing them again next year. @ Charlotte, North Carolina

Busy time of year in the gardens! We loved harvesting all types of colorful root vegetables this week while preparing for warm summer months by planting tomatoes (11 different kinds!), cucumbers, okra, peanuts, and much more.

Growing our own peanuts for the first time was a cool experience! The plant grows easily, has unique orange flowers, and brought some pollinators. We also learned a thing or two about peanut allergies...

Finley was at camp last week and wanted different sized blocks for a Rube Goldberg machine she was helping out with. So she box-sawed, sanded, and painted them!

Some of our makers wanted to make a plant talk. So they used a Makey Makey for a prototype. Touch the snap pea leaves and a bell will sound!

We cleared out a new bed with help from a few high school freshmen. This one has a great view of the Charlotte Rail Trail and will be home to some different types of onions.
