Stray cats need your help before winter gets here !
Our mission at Crazy Cats is to enrich the lives of communities by addressing the overpopulation of free-roaming cats in Greater Cincinnati, including proactively and humanely trapping, spay/neutering, vaccinating, and returning feral cats to safe managed environments. We feed 16 feral cat colonies daily and monitor the colonies for new free-roaming cats.
Our largest colony needs your help. Up to 15 cats in a single Forest Park colony lost the shed that has kept them safe from the elements for many years. The cats are simply not wanted on the property any longer.
The good news is, a kind person nearby has offered to keep a feral cat shed on her property. We couldn’t be happier. However, a simple shed costs over $1500 and we are asking for donations to build a new shed for the cats, especially before winter comes.

This is one of the stops on our feral route. We always joke that they’re yelling “the food truck is here”. We have to feed late at night so that there’s no traffic and because the neighborhood isn’t supportive of us feeding them. They depend on us feeding them everyday, it’s heartbreaking that they look forward to just 1 meal a day but it feels good that they know they’ll at least get that.

We’ve been trying to trap a very sick cat at the largest colony we feed for over a month now. This poor guy has lived his entire life outside in this neighborhood and a few years ago the woman who fed them everyday moved and left a lot of cats behind with nobody to feed them. We found out and started feeding daily (even though it’s prohibited by the local ordinances). We’ve fixed over 60 cats in this neighborhood in the 2-3 years we’ve been going. This guy came everyday to eat and about 2 months ago we noticed his nose didn’t look good but he was very difficult to trap since he’s been TNR’d before. After carefully watching and getting closer and closer we figured out how to get him. I’ve posted pictures of him in happier days and how we finally got him. Unfortunately he had cancer and today we helped him cross the rainbow bridge and now he is pain free. RIP Nosey, we will miss you !!
We’ve used this method before to catch difficult to trap cats if we can get somewhat close to them. We used a milk crate to put over them, then slide cardboard under them carefully transfer to a trap.

On this Valentine’s Day we are celebrating Buttercream. He’s my Valentine this year ❤️❤️.
A little update on how he’s been doing .. when we first got him from the basement he was hiding and he was pretty much acting feral. At the vet that first night he let me pet his head but that was it. I brought him home and he’s been on cage rest. We realized pretty quick medicating him daily was impossible; he would literally attack me. Our vet then gave us an alternative of a steroid injection and pain med injections. We did that once and he wouldn’t allow it again. We’ve been slowly gaining his trust now that he’s not in so much pain, but that is the only contact he enjoys and will allow.
As you can see in the video he is making progress. He can now stand on all 4 legs and walk in small increments. He uses the litterbox intermittently and the potty pads the rest of the time.

Buttercream came home with me today. The next 48 hours are a wait and see situation to find out if he can use the bathroom on his own. He’s in a lot of pain so we added more pain meds. His bloodwork overall really wasn’t bad so the hope is that this is a disc and the cage rest and meds will help him heal. We want to give him every chance we can at a good life. This is him at the vet when we picked him up, as you can see he just wants to be loved….
Several of our followers asked for an update on Baby Joan Jett, our pneumonia kitten. She's breathing better, but not entirely well yet. She's still on 3 medications and nebulizer treatments daily. But she is hanging in there and getting better each day.
She goes back to the vet next week for her weekly check up, but she's out of the oxygen chamber which is great progress.

For those wandering why we are feeding next to a trap, we are actually trying to get this mom and dad to bring out their 2 kittens from under the garage. There are 2 kittens in there that we believe are the siblings to the little orange one we found the other day. We aren’t ready to trap these 2 but we need them to get comfortable and bring out the kittens.

While on our stray route feeding late last night we came across this single kitten in the middle of the road. When we stopped the car to literally avoid hitting him in the street he jumped into this little bush to hide. We got out to try to coax him out of the bush but he was terrified. Thankfully we had a trap in the car. At that point the police showed up because it was late and we looked suspicious in the bushes at 1:00 in the rain lol but thankfully after explaining what we were doing we successfully caught this adorable scared little kitten !!

Kitten season is outta control this year !! We got a call about these little bottle babies. They were found under a porch screaming because they were so hungry. We took them and thankfully found a bottle feeder. We then set a trap and a trail cam for mom. Unfortunately mom was found hit by a car a block away from where these babies were. This is such a sad situation but unfortunately all too common.

Usually by now kitten season is starting to slow down but not this year !! There are still tons of homeless kittens out there that need help. One of the employees that work at the Petsmart that we adopt out of reached out about 3 very sick kittens in his apartment complex and asked if we could help. We are extremely full but when our volunteer went to check out the situation we knew we had to take them. They all have Upper Respiratory Infections and very bad eye infections. We believe all of them are treatable but 1 may lose an eye. They are all very small with the biggest at only 13 ounces. They are currently with a great foster getting the medical treatment they need and hopefully will be feeling better soon !!!

Sunday night we trapped this female and took her to get spayed, they were full on Monday so she was spayed today. As soon as she was done they let me know that she was lactating and postpartum so of course we freaked out. My husband went back over where she was trapped and looked everywhere he could until he found them. They were all ok and very hungry. Now they’ll be reunited. It’s really hard to trap females during kitten season because there’s always a chance you’re taking a mom away from babies but sometimes you only have one shot to get a female and you can’t pass it up based on what if’s. At that point all you can do is the best you can to be responsible and look for kittens, today we got lucky.

You will probably not see most free-roaming cats because their goal in life is to avoid people at all costs. But not our Mitch! After feeding him for about a year at a Crazy Cats feral colony, Mitch decided to jump in our car and that was that! He became a forever indoor love bug. His new hobbies include rolling on carpet, asking for a good brushing, and asking for a good brushing. Did we mention he loves to be brushed? After a bit of transition to new situations, this big fella is “all in” to human attention and love.

This is Meet Me Monday and this is Mama Maize. Her kittens have been adopted, but she has been waiting quite a while for her family to find her. Maize likes dogs much more than she likes cats, so she might be the purrfect addition to a dog family. You can meet her at the Florence PetSmart!
While we were cleaning today a super nice couple came in and did a head count and bought wet food for every cat & kitten in the cat room. The cats were so excited to enjoy their treat.
Yesterday we rescued this girl (that we named Pippette) from inside of a 6’ tall pipe that was sitting upright in a wooded area. My husband had to jump down inside of it (of course she freaked out and tried to attack) then use a special trap with a slide out bottom to catch her inside of the pipe. Today she’s getting spayed & vaccinated !!
