Firework season is coming! 🐶🐱

Fireworks can cause stress, anxiety and even aggression in some pets! Here are some tips to be prepared this summer:

- Create a safe space with other noises for your pet to retreat to if they're feeling scared. White noise or a quiet tv in the background can help block out the sound and reduce the impact of fireworks on your pet.

- Make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise the day before. Unlike thunderstorms, fireworks are usually predictable. Make sure to incorporate a healthy amount of exercise before the fireworks start, that way they will have less pent up nervous energy.

- Provide treats, toys and plenty of attention as a distraction. For many pets, distraction is a great tool. Remaining calm is also important because your pet can pick up on when you're nervous. Playing with your pet is a great tool to distract and also have fun!

- Use of a thunder shirt can be very effective for some dogs and cats. A thunder shirt is a vest-like wrap that applies gentle, constant pressure to your pet's torso to help them feel calm during stressful situations. There are many brands available online, find the best match for your pet and give it a try!

- Call your Veterinarian to discuss anxiety medication and if it's the right choice for your pet. Medication can be a very helpful tool when it comes to anxiety!
