Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 23, SCDOT will temporarily shift traffic to one lane on I-85 Southbound in Spartanburg County. Crews will build a new concrete lane between mile markers 79 and 80.

Both concrete lanes are scheduled to be open on the early morning of Monday, August 26.

SCDOT encourages drivers to use an alternate route during the closure. Plan your route ahead of time by using SCDOT's 511 SC app or by visiting 511sc.org. Please slow down and drive carefully near this and other work zones.

Starting late tonight, SCDOT will close the ramp on I-20 Westbound at Exit 64B leading to I-26 Westbound for construction on the SCDOT Carolina Crossroads project. SCDOT expects the detour to last through the weekend.

Message board signs will display detour directions. Please slow down and use caution while driving through this interchange near Columbia.

Detour directions from I-20 Westbound to I-26 Westbound: On I-20 Westbound, bypass Exit 64B and continue on I-20 Westbound. Take Exit 64A onto I-26 Eastbound. Then take Exit 107B onto I-20 Eastbound. Take Exit 64B onto I-26 Westbound.

I-26 Near Ridgeville - All Travel Lanes Open

Following Friday’s flooding rains, the waters have receded, repairs have been completed, and all travel lanes have been reopened to traffic on I-26 near mile marker 189.

We appreciate the road workers and law enforcement personnel that worked long hours to get the interstate reopened and keep traffic moving safely.

SCDOT crews will continue to work through the weekend to make repairs to restore mobility for impacted areas of South Carolina.

4:30 PM Update: One Lane Opens Eastbound on I-26 near Ridgeville

Crews have begun making rapid repairs to interstate 26 near mile marker 189 as the waters recede from the roadway. Both lanes westbound are open for travel and now one lane in the eastbound direction is also reopened for travel. Delays are still anticipated, especially during peak travel hours. Drivers are urged to use caution as road workers are still actively working in this area.

We will work as quickly as possible to reopen all travel lanes as soon as it is clear and safe to do so. Please be advised - additional rainfall or flooding may require the road to be closed again. SCDOT will continue to monitor conditions.

3 PM Update: I-26 near Ridgeville

At this time, I-26 near mile marker 189 is completely closed to eastbound traffic. Both westbound lanes are reopened and safe for travel, but delays in the area are expected. We do not expect the water to recede from the east side of the roadway until after the peak travel hours during today's evening commute. We urge drivers to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible. A detour map for eastbound travel is provided below.

SCDOT has crews pre-staged to assess the interstate as soon as the water recedes and to make rapid repairs if necessary.

🚨 AVOID THE AREA: I-26 near Ridgeville 🚨

Following additional significant rainfall overnight, I-26 in both directions near MM 189 east of Cypress Campground overpass is currently flooded. Following the South Carolina landfall of Tropical Storm Debby overnight, SCDOT employees continue working around the clock to respond to damage from heavy rainfall and winds.

In the Lowcountry and the Midlands, crews are focused on assessing and repairing roads as the water recedes. In the P*e Dee, SCDOT is responding in affected areas and preparing for the potential of future flood impacts. SCDOT continues to monitor the rainfall and potential for flooding in impacted river basins, with 18 additional assistance crews from the Upstate ready to deploy if needed.

Please check road conditions before traveling and never drive through water. If you see first responders like our SCDOT employees out working, please slow down and give them room to do their jobs.

SCDOT continues to respond to impacts of Tropical Storm Debby while also monitoring the weather forecast and preparing for additional heavy rainfall.

As of midday today, there are closures on approximately 83 state-maintained roadways, primarily in the Lowcountry. SCDOT crews have been working around the clock and have reopened 25 roads that were closed as a result of tropical storm weather. All major interstate highways remain open. Several ramps on Interstate 95 were closed as a result of standing water, but SCDOT has reopened those ramps today.

SCDOT crews and support teams continue to work around the clock to maintain roads in affected areas, and we are prepared to respond as the storm progresses.
