Where is your favorite place to ride?

It's not about the object, it's about the process!

Often I hear people say, "I will never ask my horse to go over a tarp, bridge, play with a ball. That's just people doing things that don't matter." Not true!

Let's look at this from another point of view. Can I get my horse to cross the creek, go through the ditch, up the hill?

It's not about the obstacle, it's about the process we use to get the obstacle done. When we practice how we are going to navigate an obstacle over and over again the horse learns to be confident and know that they can trust you. If every time you approach an obstacle it is the same, this also builds confidence. Through repetition you can teach your horse that they can trust you and navigate any obstacle you put in front of them. You never know what you will find as you ride through the woods, down the road, or in town.

So do yourself a favor and teach your horse a safe and easy process for navigating obstacles! And build a stronger bond with your horse!

Getting out and meeting the neighbors!

It is very important that we get our horses outside to see and experience the chaos that goes on. When your horse becomes interested in something and wants to investigate it is important to help them safely do so. Often horses are nervous or scared of cattle. So it is important to allow them to meet them and build their confidence safely. Starting with cattle that are used to horses helps. It builds curiosity for the horse and cattle when they both feel safe. Not to mention how great it is to see horses and cattle together.

Love having these calves as part of our ranch!

Teach them to think through the situation.

When you teach your horse to think through situations and trust that there is an easy answer, then you can build an amazing connection with your horse.

I really like this exercise to teach c**ts to follow their nose. It puts them in an uncomfortable situation and allows them to think through it. The best part is at the end when they look to you for what's next. It's like solving a puzzle.

We all have those special horse friends!

As soon as you read that, I bet one of your favorite horse friends came to mind—along with a wonderful memory of the time you’ve shared.

With the holidays approaching and time with loved ones on the horizon, take a moment to reflect on those cherished memories and the bonds that mean so much.

Throughout my journey with horses, I’ve been incredibly blessed. I’ve had the chance to meet, help, inspire, and motivate other horsemen and women. But more importantly, I’ve received so much in return—inspiration, motivation, friendship, and help. I’m deeply thankful for all the amazing people in my life, especially those who have influenced me without even realizing it.

This holiday season, take a moment to recognize how truly blessed you are. God is so amazing!

Balance your horse!

When we are working our horses it is important to balance working on both sides of our horse. This helps our horse to be relaxed and confident on both the left and right sides.
